Guest guest
The news about Chloe is wonderful!! I am so happy that she does not have CF. However I can understand the carrier issue. My hubby and I are sickle cell anemia gene carriers and did not know until our first child was born with sickle cell anemia. We were devastated...because at the time we had to use military healthcare which is some of the worst. They forgot to tell me that my sickle cell test was positive so that hubby could get tested and them we could have gotten pre-natal genetic testing so we could have at least been prepared. When we finally had a good pregnancy and had the testing done we learned that out second child is a carrier. So all went well. But of course we have always reminded her of that fact. When she decides to marry and start her own family she will need to make sure her spouse is not a carrier...if he is a carrier they will have a 25% chance of producing a child with the disease. So if your daughter decides to have a second child they need to plan to genetic counseling and testing done. I have CVS(chorinic villa sampling) done at 9 weeks of pregnancy and I had the results at 11.5 weeks of pregnancy. I would strongly recommend this test as you get results in the first trimester allowing the couple time to make a decision if termination is a consideration. Aminocentisis is great if you just want to know but plan to carry the pregnancy to term no matter what the results. Amino is usually done around 14-17 weeks of pregnancy. Though I read some info recently where they are trying at an earlier stage. Toni
