Hi Les:

Sorry to hear you are suffering a bad flare right now.

It's really hard to say how long it will last, as

they are different for each one of us, and different

too in the length they last. Mine usually last for

about a week, just getting over one, but sometimes

less, sometimes more, it's hard to say. Yes, you need

to give the Mtx more time to get into your system -

being patient is hard when you are in pain, but you

have to give the meds time to work.

As far as remission, yes, some have gone into a sort

of remission. With me, I was in a sort of remission

for maybe three months one time, until we tried to get

me off of the Mtx and have only the Enbrel. We got

down to 10 mg from 20, and the RA came back with a

vengance. I am back up to 15mg now. But with the

Enbrel and Mtx, and Ultram ER for pain, I am doing

pretty well. I have flares too, but usually I am able

to take care of what I need to do without too much

pain. I also have Fibro, and that has it's own

flares, so sometimes it's hard to say which is

flaring, or if both are involved.

This is a forever disease. I don't know of many

people who have had remissions for very long at a

time, if even for a few weeks or a month I feel good,

I consider it a remission of sorts, but maybe it

really isn't that, it's just that the RA has settled

down until the next flare up. It's kind of confusing,

but the most I hope for is just being able to have a

quality of life, that is my treatment goal.

I hope that you flare goes away soon, and that you

will be feeling better once the Mtx kicks in. Hang in

there - let us know how it goes - take care -
