Hi Ebony:

Yep, the group trip sounds great, but I would have no way to get

anywhere right now money-wise. As far as volunteering, if you like

animals, and have the time and energy to put into it, fostering dogs

who have been found by the Animal Countrol that need to learn to be

more socialized, or are injured, recovering from surgery, older or

pups, would be a good way to volunteer. Even if you only go to walk

a few dogs around on your good days.

Also, hospitals are a good place for volunteering. Is there a

Preemie NICU in a hospital near you? They sometimes will need

volunteers to just come up and hold and rock the preemies, giving

them time out of the incubators, and time being given extra human

contact if their parent is working and unable to get in, or if the

baby has been abandoned.

Volunteering can be very enriching for you, and give you something to

think about besides the pain, and doctors/medical stuff. I would

like to do something along that line myself, but right at this moment

do not have access to a car, as my husband has my truck at work every

day. Then the weekends, we like to spend time together and with our

kids and friends.

There are many different classes you could take at a community

college that might be really fun for you. Depending on your degree

of hand pain and mobility, ceramics or pottery could be difficult, or

could open up a whole new hobby that could give you much joy. How

about just taking a course in something you are interested in?

Anthropology, Archeology, Psychology - those were my favorite things

in college. Just something to get you connected to a hobby or

interest you can enjoy. There are also some schools that offer

things like tai chi classes which is something I am interested in

trying out.

I think that you are on the right track in getting more into your

life than medical stuff - we can get so caught up in our own troubles

and pain that we forget that we also need other aspects of our life

cared for. I wish you the best of luck!
