Guest guest
Has anyone taken Methadone? I met today with a girl who is struggling to find treatment here in our area. She has found a clinic that offered her methadone for pain and she's considering using it. I have heard it is a good pain medicine, that people in desparation and pain have actually signed themselves into methadone clinics under false pretenses to get relief for pain! Here is what I found in the dictionary on methadone. I'm just wondering has anyone here actually tried it, is it more or less effective against the pain etc. Thanks : Here is the entry== Main Entry: meth·a·done Pronunciation: 'me-th & - " dOn Variant(s): also meth.a.don /- " dän/ Function: noun Etymology: methyl + amino + diphenyl + -one Date: 1947 : a synthetic addictive narcotic drug C21H27NO used especially in the form of its hydrochloride for the relief of pain and as a substitute narcotic in the treatment of heroin addiction © 2001 by Merriam-Webster, Incorporated Merriam-Webster Privacy Policy
Guest guest
, I JUST started on methadone the 22nd of last month and they are just starting to raise my doses, as I understand that it has to be titirated (sp) and started out very low and brought up slowly to the optimal level of pain relief without drug effect.. .ie... being high. So far it is a good drug for me, I had to stop it due the me getting very screwed up when we added vioxx into the mix, my heart did not like it at all, so I am on clonidine patches to get my blood pressure and heart rate under control.. but as SOON as I am in control I FULLY intend to restart the methadone again and give it a good ol college try. It is the least expensive of the opiod therapy drugs and if it will work for me that works!! I have a friend who has been on it for a year or more and she SWARES by it. She was fully wheel chair bound, and now she only uses the chair to take her new grandson for a ride on the buggy! lol Hugs and good luck,
Guest guest
, oh no, vioxx was awful for me too!! I had breathing trouble, heart palpitations and stomach upset. Good luck with the methadone! I will tell my new friend that I've heard encouraging news about it.
