Guest guest
I'm suffering with newly diagnosed RA and just doing some research because some of my symptoms seem similar to Chronic Fatigue and Fibro. So... in my research I found a lot of info on vets with auto-immune problems. Is anyone else here on the list a Desert Storm Vet? It mentions that female vets have been affected more than males with Gulf War Syndrom illnesses. AND...those with family histories of autoimmune disorders (which I have as well) have been more affected. Thanks in advance for helping to satisfy my curiosity. Guest guest
Desert Storm? That was way after my time. Viet Nam was my time for exposures. We had the same general problems but didn't have the accessible information you have today. Many SEA vets came back with problems that the government turned a deaf ear to and/or denied it existed. RA wasn't a genuine disability until around 1990. If you had RA, tough luck. There was no discrimination to file against until later on. I was an office manager when the RA struck me, and during the next year, I was demoted, demoralized, then dismissed because I " had no disability " . As for genetics, RA is prevalent in my mother's side of the family. Of 6 siblings, I'm the only one with RA and Fibro. One sister has all the things that are hard to test for, but that's another story. RA is a genetic predisposition.
