Guest guest
Hi everyone!!! I'm new to the group. I have had LUPUS for about 5years now being diagnosed and I have noticed also that there weren't that many people saying they had Lupus. I had read a previous message about that I can't seam to remember who it was from now. I seam to have some of the same symtems as her/him. I just wanted to possibly conversate a little more with that particular person. Could some one let me know who that was?
Guest guest
- Hi Gail, You are probably over wt because of the portal hypertension which causes you to retain water + + + . Are your legs really swollen? Or your abdomen? If the transplant team needs you to lose wt then they should be telling you how or refer you to someone that can help. You asked why they are reluctant to do surgery on over wt people. Its just that much harder for the body to recover, hard on the heart and lungs, which need to be in good order for the surgery. Exactly how much wt do they want you to lose?? As well adipose tissue[AKA fat] heels poorly, they are just trying to reduce complications during and following surgery. Keep pressing them for the answer I can understand your frustration when unable to keep up on chores around the farm. I am still really active , But I know if I couldn't keep up That would be really hard. enjoy the beautiful summer days shell in Creston -- In Hepatitis CSupportGroupForDummies , " gail " <gaila@...> wrote: > > I know that being overweight reduces your chances of treatment working and I > have heard of many doctors refusing to treat because of weight. Why can't a > person that is overweight get a new liver.Hope someone can fill me in on > that. > Gail

Guest guest
Ask your doctor why the specialist says treating again wouldn't work. Gail Dear Gail: I will ask this time. I got a copy of the questions to ask Dr. They didn't say anything about my weight. I am 40 lbs. overweight now because after loosing too much weight on tx I went the opposite & eat whatever & whenever I wanted because I thought I was just going to die anyways. But I haven't died yet & I don't like this extra weight & since I'm fighting for my life, I have started to loose weight & kicking Dr. butts. Tks for the pep talk. Donna Looking for the perfect gift? Guest guest
Dear : Tks. for the words of encouragement. I'm only 40 lbs. overweight, so I don't think that's a problem. I have started to loose weight thou. I will give me Spec. another chance as long as he discusses why he does what he does or doesn't do in his case! If he doesn't then Gail was kind enough to find other Spec. for me in my area! That gives me hope. I'm sure I could of used anti-depressants, but same as you, there too expensive & my spirits have lifted so much with this support group & you guys are more friendly to my bad boy liver. I'm going to start asking for my lab tests back too. Will they give me my ultra sound test as well do you think? Tks so much Donna--- Now with a new friend-happy design! Guest guest
Hi , Sorry I took so long to answer this but I just don't have much energy these days. I'm supposed to recieve a pager in case something becomes available before my nephew finishes his assessment to donate. Luckily, I live in the city(small) with the Regional Health Center for this area, which happens to be larger than the country of France but is not at all densely populated at all. There's a Cancer Centre here too that some people come to from Toronto because of treatment waiting lists! I don't pay for the trips - Disability covers all - transportation, lodging & food for one day. Then they get the Northern Ontario Health Grant $$, subtract what they spent & cut me a cheque for the balance. I've gotten two cheques from them so far for over $2,000! When time comes for the t p, Disability will cover my apartment in T O while I'm there - I have to cover the food from my usual monthly cheque. As for pain - so far none! Fingers crossed it stays that way. Hope I answered all your questions. SuZie & Sir SpYke the Lord & Master - Disability won't pay for his care !! Save the Earth - it's the only planet with CHOCOLATE!
