Guest guest
And then we have to put up with the TV ads about Aleve that 'fix' any arthritis problem. That gives a misconception to society that we can get over the RA because everyone can take 2 Aleve a day, it's that easy. I still say it shouldn't be named Arthritis! Even though it affects the 'arthur', it's still a " Disease " ! Guest guest
Yes, we should all try that miracle drug, Aleve, LOL. Actually, that's the first thing that I took for my RA, and all it did for me was to give me a bleeding ulcer. Guest guest
I have a question. My rheumy gave me a doctor's statement because I have missed quite a bit of work lately due to the r.a. and he wrote on the statement " Polyarthritis " . I had never heard of the term. I asked his nurse and she said " he said it is the same thing as R.A. : it means arthritis in more than 5 joints. " I asked him to add " R.A. " to it because that is what i told my boss my problem is stemming from. As we have talked about here before, others have the perception that it is just 'sore joints'. And the term polyarthritis sounds like the same. Have you guys heard this used before? Re: [ ] 'friends' with RA-Dennis Yes, we should all try that miracle drug, Aleve, LOL. Guest guest
polyarthritis = arthritis in many joints It's a nonspecific term. It could mean that your rheumatologist hasn't officially diagnosed you with RA yet. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Hi Dennis - You are totally right on about that - the commercials should mention that this is for ordinary arthritis or osteoarthritis, and differentiate that from rheumatoid arthritis which is a Disease of the autoimmune system. Doubt they ever will, though, as the term arthritis is tossed around and applied to just about every ache and pain that people have when they reach a certain age (won't get specific about that, 'cept to say I have reached it lol) - oh my rheumatiz! Guest guest
I want to jump on that soapbox for a minute as well. The commercials on TV for Humira and Enbrel seem to say if you use this new " miracle " drug your life will be normal again. I'm on Humira injections each week and have been for a couple of years. I'm very hopeful that the Humira is slowing the damage RA causes and I do think I am in less pain than before I began it, however, I still have sever fatigue and I have to pace myself with everything I do or I'll collapse and my joints are still sore, after much exercise, I hurt all over. My grown children have asked more than once, " Aren't you on that Humira? Shouldn't you be ok now? " " Mom, you need more exercise, you need to get out more like on the commercials for Humira " . As far as me and RA, the commercials are very misleading. OK, I step down now. Colleen
Guest guest
Yes, as your nurse said, it just means that the arthritis is in lots of joints (poly being the prefix meaning many). My doctor has referred to my R.A. the same way. Pennie Re: [ ] 'friends' with RA-Dennis Yes, we should all try that miracle drug, Aleve, LOL.
