Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the group. This is my first post. I was diagnosed with RA at 16 and am now 40+ years. My disease has been extremely aggressive and I was bedridden for several years in the 90's. But I had a great team of doctors and therapists who had faith in me and kept looking for anything that would help. I have had the anti-inflammatories aspirin, Clinoril and Dolobid (probably others I have forgotten), injectible mtx, gold injections, nitrogen-mustard treatment (very painful), enbrel, remicade (very bad reaction), rituxin and now am doing well on Humira. In the 80's, I walked on my own, the mid 90's I began using crutches. By 1996 I had my first knee total replacement, 1997 saw my other knee replaced. The pain releif was immediate after the surgeries and I heeled well, but I was never able to bend them past 90 degrees. They were just too bent for too long. After the replacements, my ankles and hands started to get progressively worse until I was unable to walk well even with crutches. During the Nashville hurricane of 1998, I was test driving an electric wheelchair down the inner hallway of Baptist hospital. I have been mostly in the chair since then. With the medicine combination of 75mg Myochrysine (gold), 8mg of MTX weekly/1mg folic acid daily, and Humira every 2 weeks, along with keeping my allergies in check, and lots of physical therapy, I am now able to function for short periods of time without the chair. I no longer need it for Dr. visits or trips to a restaurant. I am able to drive again and enjoy the great outdoors. To sum it all up: Been there, done that! I too have dealt with nail fungus in the past and found the tea tree oil a pleasant and effective cure that did not interfere with my treatment or cause harmful side effects.
