Guest guest
Hi, Betty. I've had classic migraines since childhood. They are preceded by a visual disturbance called an aura. Over the last few years, I have had a couple of instances where I got the aura but not the migraine. That's called migraine aura without headache, silent migraine, or aura sans migraine. I wouldn't describe my aura as you did, but that doesn't mean you aren't experiencing an aura. I would get it checked out. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Betty, I remember hearing about this on some other list that I'm on. With my migraines, I never had the aura, just the severe headache. Sorry I don't know anything else about it. But I googled and found these: ..Migraine aura without headache Journal of Family Practice - Find ... Guest guest
Betty, It sounds like an occular migrain. I get those, increasingly so as of late. Sounds similar to mine. I get a dark circle in the center of my vision and flashing lights around it. Then the circle gets bigger and my vision starts to return, first in the center as the circle expands until it's gone. Usually I just close my eyes and enjoy the light show!! Now, as for it being from a TIA, that is possible and in that case you should do as your doctor says and get the MRI and the doppler study on your carotid arteries. It certaintly wouldn't hurt. Here is a link with some info....Marina http://www.headaches.org/consumer/topicsheets/ocularmigraine.html > > Today I saw my opthamologist as a check up following minor surgery. > > Unrelated, but I asked him about something that happened this week. Guest guest
Thanks for all the good references. I don't know why Google wasn't finding the combination of words. When I got in the right line of thinking there were lots of information. Since this was initiated by an opthamalogist I will assume he had ruled out it being an eye problem. He dictated a referral to my GP at that time. One other aspect of this is a question. Nausea is one symptom of this. I have been getting sick to my stomach at very random times and vomiting. I had gone through all my meds to see if one of them was the problem. I know any med has the potential to do that I did not find a suspect. I didn't tell the eye doctor that. I had mentioned it to my GP at my last visit. His first response was to check out my digestive system. I turned that offer down as I don't see the problem being there. Now it seems that I am off on another wild goose search. I hate it every time I finish off one problem it is replaced by 2 others. Guest guest
Migraines are often accompanied by nausea. I usually didn't throw up with mine, but I felt like I needed to. Guest guest
Betty, I spent 5 days over Christmas in the hospital and then I was so sick all through Jan and Feb that I never left the house except to crawl to the dr's office...(and I do mean crawl)....and it was all due to either Methotrexate or Placquenel....I quit taking both of them...beause I couldn't keep anything down,.I wouldn't even SMELL food cooking without being sick.It started out that I vomited everything I ate for about a week...every six weeks and then it turned into a merathon!(in a costco parking lot 60 miles away from home! talk about a long trip home!!)I was living on peanut butter and instant breakfast! DRs had me set up for complete GI workup including EGD/colonoscopy..under general anesthesea!!(because of my back problems)...and all the symptoms stopped when I stopped most of my meds. I also stopped meds for peripheral neuropthy, and inflamation, all of the little extra meds that had been added on by the pain management people. Of course I immediatly flared...and have continued to do so..but my stomach is 70% better..I still don't have the guts to try some foods yet!!..I have Rhuemmy appt next week and hope to be put on something else. Also I was having light flashes in my right eye and when using my eyes would find myself closing my right eye and only using the Left...so the placquenel was doing something there too..besides really dry to the bone eyes. I think no matter what we take there are going to be side effects...but these were just too much to deal with.....three months of vomiting will wear even the toughest of us down in no time! Odds are it is not your digestive system...but a side effect of one of the eds you are taking. I hope you find it...and get it changed..you will feel so much better!! good luck!!...........jenna > ..
