Guest guest
Dear Kishore, I read the book some months back...but it didn't strike me that our Shyam was speaking!!! The book is interesting initially, but I got fed up of reading too many books with God preaching (Robin Sharma's 'The Monk who sold his Ferrari', Mitch Albom's 'The five people you meet in heaven'and then this). I liked Chetan Bhagat's frst book, Five point someone, better. Guest guest
Well, the character Shyam raves about quitting his outsourcing job and reverting to India....exactly what Shyam Kamath is saying. The character Shyam says that women are difficult to understand....exactly what Shyam Kamath is saying. (And all males are saying) The character Shyam tries to justify his boss's short comings occasionally....exactly what Shyam Kamath does about Saudis. I think we should wait until Shyam reads the book and decides if he can identify with this fictional Shyam. The God part of the book was however minimal and easily omittable, as one character in the book itself - the girl on the train - says. However, I agree with you that it is not a classic. I did find it a good read, though. Kishore Shah 1974 Re: Oh God! Shyam! > Dear Kishore, > > I read the book some months back...but it didn't strike me that > our Shyam was speaking!!! Guest guest
Dear Kishor, Chetan Bhagat's first book Five point someone is worth reading. The book described by you was a bit of dampsquib. VK Gupta 1976 Oh God! Shyam! Now I don't know how to tell this, but here in simple words is the chronology of what happened. I read an email from Shyam saying that he does not believe all this bull shit about talking with God, and I could not have agreed more with him. The same evening, my wife bought a novel named " One night @ the call centre " by Chetan Bhagat. (Rupa Publishers) Neither my wife nor I had ever read this author. In fact it was his second book. I read the book in one sitting. The hero of this book is a character called Shyam and he has a conversation with God. I urge all of you, who have the time, inclination and interest to read this book. Though it is a bit about America bashing, uncannily, it is just as if our own Shyam Kamath is speaking out through the pages of this book. As a bonus, it is a great insight into the young lives of Modern India. You have always wondered what these young boys and girls do in those abnormal hours at the various nocturnal call centres. Now you can find out from this call centre at Gurgaon. Go for it. And then email me and tell me, is it not our own Shyam talking in this book?
