My name is Dianie, I'm 21 years old and was diagnosed with rheumatoid

arthritis about 6 weeks ago... I've been taking 200mg of Plaquenil

stiff & hurting as much) since I've been taking this med but I still

experience fatigue in the mornings and sometimes throughout the day,

my joints still feel warm (knees, wrists, hips)... Does anyone have

any advice or knowledge they could share with me about Plaquenil &

rheumatoid arthritis? Has anyone been diagnosed this young? I'm still

a little uneducated about this disease and I would like to know as

much as possible, I've searched on the internet but every website had

a somewhat different opinion of rheumatoid arthritis and what causes

it... I'd greatly appreciate any response or advice I get.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Dianie,

Yes, it is possible to be diagnosed this young. My dad was your age exactly

when he was diagnosed. My daughter is 12 ½ and has recently been diagnosed

with very aggressive RA.

Hi Dianie,

Yes, I agree with Lori. My daughter was diagnosed with very agressive

Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was just two years old. That's

where her body attacks her joints and her systemic organs and such. She has been

on Methotrexate (chemo) for four years now, as well as Remicade (A TNF

inhibitor) IV every four weeks for four hours. She's also been on high dose

Prednisone off and on for the entire four years as well.

As far as what causes it, noone will or can give you a straight answer I'm

sure. They told me it was a FLUKE. Just any old virus can turn on your immune

system and BAM as soon as your immune system wipes out the infection or virus it

just won't turn off. It goes into overdrive and sees your own joints and/or

organs as foreign bodies/infections and tries to destroy it. It's an autoimmune

disease, they say you can inherit the predisposition to get autoimmune diseases

but that the acutal disease itself is not hereditary. These days they have

great drugs so I'm sure they'll find some good ones for you. I can DEFINITELY

SAY with certainty that you have to be bold and ask as many questions as you

want. Even make a list to ask. (And write down the answers because you won't

remember them all). LOL My husband says I've grown " mommy balls " since my

daughter got sick. I no longer just let them out of the exam room until ALL my

questions are answered. I used to be timid and not

want to " bother " the doctors, Not anymore. That's my baby! Well, good luck to

you.

Hi Dianie, My name is Cyndi and I was diagnosed with RA when I was 14. My best

advise to you is treat it like you would a child. Love it, care for it,

mentally, physically and emotionally.Be mad at it like you would a child if you

must but never neglect it. What I am trying to say is find yourself a good

Rhumy and don't just take what he gives you but ask question always. STAY

active, I can tell you from experience that every little bit of movement

counts. I strongly believe that it helps decrease pain and prolongs the

inevitable deformity that comes with RA. Well Dianie I hope that I haven't

scared you but been helpful if ever you have any questions or just want to chat

you can e-mail me at fortyslpz@.... Cyndi in Cali.

Hi right back to you!!!! Welcome!!! One of the best..the very best things you

could of ever done for yourself is find this group!!!!!!!! Let me welcome you

to the lifeline! I am sorry about the DX @ such a young age. RA is certainly

not age specific. As for information, you are on the money here! Any and I

mean anything you can think of that you might want to know, learn about, etc..

a and/or and several members for that matter can hook you right up!

One good thing about being DX so young is that you can get on it sooner and

hopefully can remain active! Knowledge is power so they say and you will be

hooked up, I assure you! Hang in there and pat yourself on the back.

Information and support is coming your way! XXX's take care. Kim
