Guest guest
Hi Dianie, Yes, it is possible to be diagnosed this young. My dad was your age exactly when he was diagnosed. My daughter is 12 ½ and has recently been diagnosed with very aggressive RA. Guest guest
Hi Dianie, Yes, I agree with Lori. My daughter was diagnosed with very agressive Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was just two years old. That's where her body attacks her joints and her systemic organs and such. She has been on Methotrexate (chemo) for four years now, as well as Remicade (A TNF inhibitor) IV every four weeks for four hours. She's also been on high dose Prednisone off and on for the entire four years as well. As far as what causes it, noone will or can give you a straight answer I'm sure. They told me it was a FLUKE. Just any old virus can turn on your immune system and BAM as soon as your immune system wipes out the infection or virus it just won't turn off. It goes into overdrive and sees your own joints and/or organs as foreign bodies/infections and tries to destroy it. It's an autoimmune disease, they say you can inherit the predisposition to get autoimmune diseases but that the acutal disease itself is not hereditary. These days they have great drugs so I'm sure they'll find some good ones for you. I can DEFINITELY SAY with certainty that you have to be bold and ask as many questions as you want. Even make a list to ask. (And write down the answers because you won't remember them all). LOL My husband says I've grown " mommy balls " since my daughter got sick. I no longer just let them out of the exam room until ALL my questions are answered. I used to be timid and not want to " bother " the doctors, Not anymore. That's my baby! Well, good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi Dianie, My name is Cyndi and I was diagnosed with RA when I was 14. My best advise to you is treat it like you would a child. Love it, care for it, mentally, physically and emotionally.Be mad at it like you would a child if you must but never neglect it. What I am trying to say is find yourself a good Rhumy and don't just take what he gives you but ask question always. STAY active, I can tell you from experience that every little bit of movement counts. I strongly believe that it helps decrease pain and prolongs the inevitable deformity that comes with RA. Well Dianie I hope that I haven't scared you but been helpful if ever you have any questions or just want to chat you can e-mail me at fortyslpz@....
