Guest guest
I have had good luck with traction. I am acutally waiting on a home lumbar traction to be delivered. It took a while for me to notice that it helped. So I am to the point if I don't do the traction that my legs, ankles, feet all the way to my toes swells up so bad I can't hardly walk. The traction did help to with pain. At first I hurt really bad from it as it stretches your muscles when it pulls. But I talked to the dr who gave me muscle relaxers and such......he just asked that I try it 3 times a week for a month before I said it didn't work. I did and I am glad. Let me know how you get. Hi everyone,It's been a while since I've posted. I wanted to update and ask a question. I began seeing a new Chiro for my herniated disk (L5S1)pain and tingling - left back, hip, leg, and foot. He has been adjusting me and on Monday I had 20 min. of traction. I haven't had any change yet, well no positive change. I have had night pain evey night this week. I wake at 4am or so with pain. I go back in 2 wks. for more of the same. I'm wondering if anyone here has had good results from traction? Thanks for your feedback, I hope everyone is having a good day.iamenta103

Guest guest
I don't post often here but read many of your posts. I have a herniated C6-7 but thankfully it " healed " enough to not cause me constant pain. So I'm always trying to learn more on how to accomodate it, what I might need to do in future, etc. Just a couple Sundays ago, an infomercial came on regular broadcast TV (hate them) but before I could turn it off, I realized it was for something called a DRX-9000, a computerized spinal traction machine Doctors use. I watched the whole thing and saw several testimonials and looked at their website too. Still not sure if this really works but thought I'd share in case someone wants to check it out. There are restrictions from it like recent fusion and other specific conditions. Here is the manufacturer's site: http://www.axiomworldwide.com/DRX9000.htm This is the lumbar version, they also have a cervical version. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has had this treatment. Hopefully it is helping someone - it appears that way from their testimonials..... Leena On 8/10/05, TheSuperMom@... <TheSuperMom@...> wrote: I have had good luck with traction. Guest guest
Hi Tim, The first time manual traction was done on me it felt good and helped alot with neck spasms. It was part of a neck rehab program that included spinal mobilization, massage and strengthening exercises. The second time, about 8 months later, after I'd had another illness which weakened me considerably, the traction made my neck worse and I don't know why. The only way for your mother to find out is for her to try it. Make sure the therapist does it easy at the beginning to see how she does. Guest guest
Hi Rochelle, I think she is going to try it net week. Guest guest
Hi Tim how did the traction work out for your MOm?? My dr did some on me long ago, he even gave me a thing I could do it myself at home. It filled with water and fit over a doorway, had all these straps to go around your head and under your chin ( mine was for my neck at the time) it was kind of a pain to do it without help. There is a new treatment that might help your mom I don't know you'd have to check with her dr. But its similar to traction but its done with a big machine that slowly puts the disc back into place. There is a link to it in the website links. Seems like it was called " spinal decompression " I thought about having it done, looked into it the results were pretty good at least for awhile. Nothing last forever I don't think but because of my wires I was not a canidate for it. Maybe that would help your Mother I just don't know but at least it might be worth looking into. Will keep your Mother in my prayers that they find someway to lessen her pain. Best wishes Shaorn Group Owner > > Hello all, > > Its been a while since my last post. Guest guest
--- You mention traction. I have traction therapy as part of my PT. My therapist has his doctorate in PT. I first started PT last winter with a pinched nerve at L4-L5. It helped almost immediately. I am back in PT and traction. I have DDD, bulging disks (L4-L5, L5-S1, T10-T11, bone spurs, and scoliosis. Among other things. The PT was recommended by the Ortho and pain managment dr. My therapist uses electro stimulation, moist heat, stretches, stablization exercises and the traction. He plans to add ultrasound later, first I have to be approved for more time in PT. I just wanted to tell you my experience to see if it helps you with yours. I am doing a lot better now with PT and traction.
Guest guest
>My program is very much the same as yours regarding the use of traction. I have a team of a pain mgt. MD, an OTR, and PT, we put together a tx plan including: heat, massage, stabilization exercises, and cervical traction at home. This program has helped me with the pain, numbness and tingling, and range of motion in my neck and back. I can't have surgery, due to a bleeding problem.
