Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am new to this site and to asthma. I had a pretty nasty bout with pneumonia in March and now I have Asthma. It seems to be triggered by just about anything that goes into my lungs, even air. My lungs just feel so weak I wanted to know if I could help them get strong again. Currently I am on Advair and Albuteral. I would appreciate your advice and wisdom. thank you
Guest guest
Hi - I don't know how old you are, but I'm almost 35 and have had asthma for 30 years. It started when I began to play soccer at age 5. I believe it was a combination of an allergy to grass and the exertion. I quit soccer, later started cheerleading and had a pretty normal childhood despite the issues. My best advice is to pace yourself. If you feel yourself getting tight chested, calm yourself, don't push to exert harder. This is self defeating. I do my best to listen to my body and relax despite the intensity of breathlessness. I was only using albuterol all through childhood based on my parents aversion to steroids interactions and negative side effects on my body. Recently, however I've tried advair due to the very irritable breathlessness. I tried advair for 2 years and was dealing with what I believe to be really bad side effects like extreme fatigue, weight gain, migrains, irritability, acne, inability to kick common colds, viruses when everyone else in the family could, and more. I had bronchitis like 5 times when I was on advair. I've switched to asmanex for 1 week now. it's pretty new to the market. My breathlessness has come back and aboutt that, I'm really disappointed. I don't think it's as bad as it was before I started advair. Prior to advair I was going thru 1 - 2 albuterol inhalers a month. But so far, my side effects are gone that I experienced with advair. I suppose I'll become more dependent on the albuterol and I don't know what the repurcussions of that are. From time to time I use Singulair. But, I still have yet to figure out what it helps with. I have seasonal allergies now, so I use it about twice a year for a month period at a time and think it helps with that. Maybe if I add singulair to my asmanex regimin I will regain that ability to breath deep again as with advair. Advair really took that breathless feeling away which I loved, but it had so many other neg. effects, I decided to try something else. Listen to your body. Be calm. Be advised by your dr. and your fellow asthmatics. There's always help when you need it. I'm so glad you asked, wish I had found this group much sooner. I am very new to yahoo groups and find so much support here. Good luck with Advair. Watch those side effects and know that you aren't alone. jeepbrat2 wrote: Hello everyone, I am new to this site and to asthma. I had a prettynasty bout with pneumonia in March and now I have Asthma. Guest guest
I tried predinisone 1 time about 8 years ago. Will never forget it. I couldn't sleep, felt like I was on speed or something! Thankfully I haven't had another extremely bad attack and haven't had to be on it again. I wonder, since I cannot remember if they just had me on a large does of it. I remember I had about 10 days of the meds. I'm glad to be here too, I don't have anyone else in my family with this and know very few people with it either in my area. It's so good to have this support. > > Hello everyone, I am new to this site and to asthma. I had a pretty > > nasty bout with pneumonia in March and now I have Asthma.
