Guest guest
My eleven year old son has asthma, he was diagnosed at 3 moths old. I am usually pretty good at helping him but right now he has a cough that is very consist. Does anyone have any ideas on helping to relief this. He is taking a breathing treatment every 4 hours and taking 250mg of Advair twice a day. His peak flows are still over 200,with his best being 250. So it's not time to go to the doctor's. Just wandering if anyone had any home remedies or any other ideas. Cough drops and other meds not working. Thanks

Guest guest
Yes. I know most of his triggers. Cats, Dust, common cold and Smoke. No cats, we smoke outside and I try with the dust, but we do live in Michigan and it's winter, I believe this started because of a cold. It's just the coughing sounds very painful. Complains his thoat hurts due to it. I just can not find a way to slow the cough down. He has never wheezed and has always been a cougher. Last night a popcicle helped for a while but then it seemed to get worse. Any other ideas? Peak flows are still over 200. Thanks"Matt Anders, RRT, EMT" wrote: Do you know his asthma triggers? Guest guest
have you tried a cool humidifier in his room at night. This helps me and my sons. I also heard that supplementing magnesium is good for asthma, if you have a good herbal store around you I would do some research and get suggestion dosage. I am beginning to try the supplmenet of mag soon on myself. on wrote: Yes. I know most of his triggers. Cats, Dust, common cold and Smoke. Guest guest
i am sure it is something you have already tried but i try to breathe thru my nose when at all possible, especially in the cold air. it seems that as soon as i inhale the cold air i start coughing. i also suck on vitamin c and zinc lozenges.....good vitamins and keeps my throat dry. good luck!Dava Trusner wrote: have you tried a cool humidifier in his room at night. Guest guest
Thanks I will check into the magnesium, Yes I run a humidifier in his room and have closed his heat register. Too much dust flies through there.Dava Trusner wrote: have you tried a cool humidifier in his room at night. This helps me and my sons. Guest guest
also getting good air filters for your heat system is a good idea, ones that catch many allergens. We change ours every 3 mos max. on wrote: Thanks I will check into the magnesium, Yes I run a humidifier in his room and have closed his heat register. Guest guest
Hi , I had a respiratory virus in Nov., which traveled to my bronchioles. Last month I finally went to the doctor because it progressed into a cough and an attack every day or evening, which was causing my back to hurt most of the time. My doctor said it was inflammation caused by the virus and put me on Advair to clear it up. It helped a bunch but there is still some coughing and tightness. Honey with/without lemon is an old remedy for the throat. Some people don't like the egg part, but it is said that Elvis Presley mixed milk, egg and honey together for his voice and throat everyday. It works for me. Best Regards, Kim Brosam Re: Re: Any Ideas for coughing Yes. I know most of his triggers. Cats, Dust, common cold and Smoke. Guest guest
If nothing else is working then it's time to call the doctor. I know he's only 11 but a peak flow of 250 may be a little low. Let us know how he gets. on wrote: My eleven year old son has asthma, he was diagnosed at 3 moths old. Guest guest
Yes very true, I had some on his register but it was really dirty. Keep forgetting to get more. Maybe that will help.
