Guest guest
I have never been diagnosed with FM, only CFIDS, but I have been having difficulty swallowing, not with the action as much as getting the food all the way down. It seems to get stuck in the middle and I have to keep drinking to get it to go down. It is now a daily issue, no matter how small the bites, no matter how much I chew, everything gets stuck, it's a scary feeling. Once, it ended up coming back up because it wouldn't go down. Do others have this too? Jane cfpenpal wrote: Digestive disturbances, abdominal pain, and bloating are quite common with FM as are constipation and/or diarrhea. Together these symptoms are usually known as irritable bowel syndrome or IBS. FM patients may also have difficulty swallowing food. Researchers think this may be a result of abnormalities in smooth muscle functioning of the esophagus.
Guest guest
Hi Jane, I get the same thing. Especially with things like meat, breads etc..and It hurts trying to get it to go down my throats. I have to get a drink right away. I try not to eat meat, a it is the worst for me, Jeanette Re: FM: Digestive disturbances I have never been diagnosed with FM, only CFIDS, but I have been having difficulty swallowing, not with the action as much as getting the food all the way down. Guest guest
Yes, but why are the abnormalities there? Perhaps because of the neck injuries many people with FMS have? My Mom's IBS went away in two weeks after using a good probiotic superfood (so did my Dad's constipation!) My Mom has been using a magnetic necklace for years though and has never had a problem with her neck. It puts circulation into the area. Also just a sidenote about eating meat and bread: both of these foods should be avoided when you have CF or FMS as they are very acidifying. Only about 13% of meat protein can be utilized; the rest turns into uric acid. The body can manufacture protein if it has the amino acids necessary for this. If you absolutely must eat meat, be sure to chew it at least 40 times before swallowing which will help with digestion (probably with swallowing too!). Be sure it's organic meat too as meat is one of the most polluted substances passed off for food. Unless you grow it yourself, it is likely full of hormones, antibiotics and has been fed some rather disgusting things that no animal should be forced to eat. Yes, I do eat meat occasionally, only organic! Have a great day! Sharon > > Digestive disturbances, abdominal pain, and bloating are quite common > with FM as are constipation and/or diarrhea. Guest guest
Hi Jane, yes, and CFS and PA. I just read the article where folks with FM have problems with swallowing due to the smooth muscle involvement. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I try to eat meat rarely, but it is fixed everyday here for the male who lives here, lol. I only eat the veggies, but I do like bread, but even that isn't eaten often. Thanks Jeanette Re: FM: Digestive disturbances > Yes, but why are the abnormalities there? Guest guest
Hi Jeanette, I just read that too - I'm going to my doc next week and am going to ask him about FM. I'm seeing an attorney today and she suggested over the phone, that I see a Rheumatologist, which I have never seen. That may end the question immediately. BTW, what is PA? Guest guest
Jane, My Mother-in-law has that problem and they told her it was a hietal hernia. Do you also have reflux and IBS problems?that's how hers started. She's had a lot of stomach problems, the last few years it's grown worse. I think she has FM because she has a lot of the same symptoms I do, but she won't see a Dr. about it. (I think she's either in denial, or she maybe doesn't believe it's really a disease.) Anyway, I hope you find out and you start feeling better. Guest guest
, I went to my doctor today, and he is sending me for a BA Swallow tommorrow......we'll see what happens next. I think my doctor is in a bit of denial too - He still is not convinced CFIDS is what I have, he said he's never heard of anyone with CFIDS that slurs and has abnormal gait - which i have quite often, on the really exhausted days, like today. who knows???? Thanks for the info tho, maybe that's what's going on. He also said I may go for a spinal tap - eek! Anyone had one before? Guest guest
Funny thing is, the neurologists have already ruled out MS, but my doc (who by the way, dxd me with CFIDS from the start!) mentioned MS again yesterday.......wouldn't I have the same symptoms everyday if it was MS? Guest guest
Hi Jane, MS symptoms come and go like CFS can. There can be flare up, there can be times when symptoms go away for awhile. And times when they are severe. There are many treatments, new treatments out there now for MS, and I have a friend who had it. She still works, but does miss some days. My sister in law just attended a seminar for her credit hours to maintain her Physical therapy lic., and it was on MS. Some folks have it mildly, some severe, but most have the mild form and can lead a long life. I hope you don't have it, but if it turns out you do, don't despair, it isn't a death sentence. Guest guest
WOW Jeannette - Thank you so much - I had no idea, so......that leaves me to wonder, how do they determine it's MS? Wouldn't the brain, spine/cervical MRI's show MS? I'm mean, I've been to 3 neurologists, wouldn't someone have detected it by now? HA, what am I thinking, putting all my faith into physicians? Guest guest
Jeanette, I read your post. They think you have MS. I have not check back post. If you eat grains and If they don't know what you have, check into gluten ataxia and Celica's disease. This can explain unknown problems. Guest guest
Hi Jane, I think they take spinal fluid and test that. I can't remember what I read on that now, or maybe it is the symptoms to. Since they come and go it can be hard to diagnose it. They may also be able to do nerve conduction studies on any part of the body that seems effected. The nerves pathways can be interrupted by the lose of the Myelin sheath that covers the nerves. That's what MS does, eats away at the nerve covering so that the messages(electrical impulses) don't get through like they are supposed to. If you search on the internet there is a ton of info out there, more than I can remember, lol Good Luck, Jeanette Re: FM: Digestive disturbances WOW Jeannette - Thank you so much - I had no idea, so......that leaves me to wonder, how do they determine it's MS? Guest guest
They've done a nerve conduction & as most tests, they were normal. I love that - I'm completely normal !! LOL It just seems unnecessary for me to waste the time and money to get a spinal tap, when all other tests, MRI's, Nerve Conduction, eye exams, etc have ruled MS out. I will do what I'm told though, just to satisfy my doc since I still have ins coverage thru my husband. Just seems silly! Jeanette French wrote: Hi Jane, I think they take spinal fluid and test that.
