Guest guest
Hi, I had hair loss as soon as I began Methotrexate. I started on it a few months ago with 2.5mg up to 15mg by weekly increments. Within one week, on just 2.5mg, I noticed hairloss - on my pillow, in the sink etc. As the dose went up, more hair loss. It seemed to plateau off when I got onto the 15mg. I lost hair from my head, my eyebrows but not anywhere else that might have been 'useful' like my legs and 'unmentionables' LOL. I just began last week to increase from 15mg to 25mg, so am expecting 'fallout'. Maybe this time it will start saving me money and trips to the beauty shop ?! I am using some fabulous hair conditioners now, and what hair I DO have has never been in better condition. Its a palm nut oil called OJON, which comes out of a company in Canada. Oh, and at least its winter, so I wear a lot of hats to. XX C.

Guest guest
Hi again Candace, Ooops, I hit the send button by mistake on that last mail. Anyway, what was I saying?..............Oh yes, I hope the group is of great benefit to you. It should be, as you say, it's informative and everyone seems to care for each others well being. I am on MTX along with Enbrel (and Indocid) but I haven't lost any hair because of it up until now. I am on 20mg of the MTX. I know others have mentioned this in the past though. So, welcome to the group. I hope you get some better answers than this from some of the others. Good luck,
Guest guest
A lot of the web data I've read says that hair loss on methotrexate is fairly rare and, when it occurs, is minimal. Also, the hair grows back after the treatment is stopped. I've been on methotrexate for almost 4 months now and I'm hoping the growing back part is true, because I'm one of the folks in the minority--I have been losing hair in big globs every time I shower and I have to " shed my head " into the bathroom sink twice a day so I don't shed copiously everywhere else. I must have had a lot of hair to begin with, because most parts of my hair still look fairly normal, if a bit thin. At one point, my curl hair went totally straight; then, it became curlier than ever before. The other weird part is that my scalp often burns or itches. When the giant hair globs began, I got a prescription for a " hair prostesis " (wig) from my doc, to be prepared for the inevitiable. Looks like I'll need the wig soon, but whatever, feeling better beats vanity any day! If you're just starting MTX, don't freak, my reaction is unusual. But on the positive side, the stuff is helping SO MUCH. P.S. I'm currently on .6 ml MTX once a week (shot)and I take 5 mg folic acid daily. __________________________________________________
