Guest guest
, is it possible for you to get cash under the table? That could be an option. In lieu of that, maybe the paycheck could be written to another member of your family or something like that. You should be able to do that work under the Disability rules, but maybe you don't want to take that chance. One of the girls on the list is a lawyer and may know something on this and will chime in. I hope things go well for you. When I first applied, I was drawing unemployment. At that time, the Social Security and Unemployment people weren't talking to each other, so I paid the bills like that. Unemployment was extended a few times, so I was able to live until my SSD was approved. In fact, we had $20 left when we got the first SSD check. That was close! Guest guest
Wow! You lucked out with the UE and SSD..........I don't know if I would have taken a chance. I was on UE and had 4 weeks left when I notified them that I was disabled. I filed for NY state disability (26 weeks @ $170) Had I waited till the UE was done, I wouldn't have been entitled to anything. Now I'm collecting the state disability and when the 26 weeks is up, I can go back and file for the remaining 4 weeks of UE. My hope is that I'll be able to work prior to the expiration of disability benefits. I hope that I will never have to file for permanent disability. What really pisses me off is that I was laid off from my job last year. I had paid for long term disability for 8 years. Once I became unemployed, that ended. It was after I was laid off that I became disabled! Had this occurred just a couple of months earlier, I could get 2/3 or 3/4 of my prior salary, tax free, indefinitely. Now I'm at the mercy of the government! I don't know that I would have taken the chance of claiming both at the same time! Guest guest
I don't think it was 'luck', it was just that the 2 sides weren't talking to each other in 1991. It was the same conflict of interest, one bureau against the other. Now they have learned to access info from each other. I had a whole $20 in my pocket when we got the news of the approval of SSD. I had been with my employer for over 19 years and while I was becoming disabled, my boss told me that as long as I could answer the phone, I had a job, personal secretary, the whole thing. That didn't last long. I had to park out in the back with the steep steps and no handrail. A man, friend of mine that I worked with, that worked the same position in the other department was given a disability retirement, but I was just laid off. Life is never fair, is it? Guest guest
Remember , if needed there are SS lawyers who will work based of a percentage of your back settlement, usually 25% , with no money up front, and no charge unless the case is won. This is what I did, I live in WI, and I used a firm in New York. but with their help, and a doctor who believed in and was willing to say so,I received my first SSD check last month after two years of appeals! I consider the 750.00 lawyers fee a good investment. in WI AMMACLARKE@... wrote: Dennis: That was close.....phew! I'm glad it worked out for you. I wont give up the fight. Guest guest
When a disability claim is appealed, I assume the payment is retroactive? If not, it should be!
