Guest guest
I love reading this, thanks for posting it. Pharmaceutical companies often give doctors a bad rap since they fund medical schools as well as shower them with these freebies. Hopefully it will become illegal for them to accept gifts from pharmaceutical companies. a On Jan 1, 2006, at 8:23 PM, alblau999 wrote: > Hi, > Some medical students are refusing freebies from the drug > biggies and have an organization, " Pharmfree. Guest guest
I know here in Ohio it IS illegal to accept gifts or " perks " from companies. One company that I deal with used to take surgeons to Indianapolis to the race track so they can go through the one day driving school and then be allowed to drive a race car. I would be given free tickets and transportation to races (the company owner also owns a race car). Now, they are not allowed to do this. Kinda sucks, I loved going to the race with the VIP pass. We could go to the trailers, meet the drivers, go to the garages and pits. It was so much fun. Thing is, too, we use this companies products a lot. Most of the surgeons don't want anything to do with the competitors products. We are not allowed to accept gifts, not even at Christmas. Now, the companies ARE allowed to leave samples of their products, such as medications, instruments, ect. But, they can only be given to patients or used in their offices, not in the hospital without going through a comittee. I know the Resident doctors accept the drug samples because they run a free clinic and this way they can at least give their patients the medications they need. When my mom past away, she had a lot of medications that were unopened. So, the ones that were unopened and in the original manufacturers bottle with the seal intact, I gave those to the free clinic for other patients. I couldn't see throwing these expensive medications away. I do miss the perks!!..........Marina > > > Hi, > > Some medical students are refusing freebies from the drug > > biggies and have an organization, " Pharmfree.
