My doc told me if I had any problems I would need to see an

endocrinologist . I am weaning off now too and am at 2.5 mg a day.

I've been taking Prednisone for 16 years, mostly at 10 mg and never more

than 15 mg/day. I recently tried to go off it and got down to 7 mg before

having intolerable pain. I tried more than once and finally gave up. It's

doing a good job of keeping me up and active, and the lack of quality of

life I'd have to endure wasn't worth it. It's not doing any real damage

because I am at a 'low level', so I'm content to take my 10 mg/day. Quality

of life is the most important for me.

ive been on/off prednisone for 15 years...now i only take it when i have a bad

flare..despite the rheumy doc prescribing 10-20 mg daily...for me, i found that

i built a dependence/tolerance for it and it took more and more to be

effective..along with the side effects....for me, ive learned to live with some

of the pain,etc...and only take it when i really need it...frank carnes

I had a lot of problems with hypoglycemia when I was in my early 20s,

long before I was diagnosed with RA. The symptoms I typically

experience are extreme fatigue and weakness, confusion and inability to

concentrate, dizziness/fainting, nausea, and headaches. It can become

so severe I can't work, drive, or do anything except stay in bed.

I agree. I got off prednisone, after tapering down for almost a year.

Asked the doctor if I could go back on! I am on 5-15 mg, so far, no side

effects after 8 years.

I will take a quality like rather than suffer every single day without

preddy, even if I get side effects.

I take prednisone in burst of 20 mg three times a day for two or three weeks

at a time and let me say hats off to all of you who use it daily and for

years at a time. Every time I have a flare up and they tell me what I've got

to take I cry, I hate it so much. I do feel better in some ways but over all

it's unpleasant and saddening.,

I'm only 25 and have been on and off of it since I was 15. If I never had to

take it again I would throw a party, but it looks like I have a chest

infection so I will probably have to go back on it soon as it is all that

will sooth my inflamed lungs and such.

Uckie!-

I guess that doesn't have too much to deal with the orginal question, I just

thought I'd chime in.

As Joy mentioned, an endocrinologist may be of help.

The normal function of your adrenal glands may be suppressed at this point,

but it is possible to reverse the situation.

Is your rheumatologist helping you taper off?

Not an MD

I'll tell you where to go!

My rheumy is overseeing the prednisone reduction, which I've done very

slowly while the MTX is building up.
