Lori,

I am sorry to hear she has this ugly disease but maybe she is young enough to

one day see a cure for it.

I am wondeirng if her age is why her doc placed her on the humira instead.

Maybe he is opting for one with less side effects and feel it would be adequate

for her right now. I would give it the recommended time by her doc but then ask

for the Enbrel if you don't see an improvement. My only complaint was the dull

needles (gotta to be a better way)) and the eventual side effects for me -- we

all react differently. It helped me a lot more than the others but it is Humira

I have a prescription for now. I was on the Enbrel for years -- since it first

came out, then it no longer worked for me. For 9 months I thought I was cured

and it worked best paired with Arava-- but then the side effects kicked in. I

am now making my way back around for meds I tolerated in the past to see if I

can take them again after having a break from them.

How does he (her doc) feel about plaquenil, Arava, and methotrexate? He is

mentioning folic acid to keep side effects down? He may be trying to control

it with the less harsh meds and may be saving those toxic ones for another time.

She is so young. I was 31 when diagnosed and I complained about losing my 30s

to disease. Makes me think twice about complaining ever again. Poor baby.

Hugs to her.

Hi Ebony,

Thanks for all the info.

We just saw the doctor today and he added Methotrexate by injection. The

pharmacy will have it tomorrow. He wants her to continue on the Humira too

and he wants to see her in 3 weeks. In the meantime he is going to check

her blood weekly while she gets started on the MTX.

To be honest today she had a better day, I think because I bumped her back

up to 40mg of Prednisone last Friday and it has finally kicked in.

The doctor said he understood my desire to get her off Prednisone, but that

he would really like her to stay on the 40mg until the Humira is either well

established or he rules it out as an option for .
