Who to talk with?

I am not sure, but if I were you, I would call back, and see if you

can maybe talk to one of the anesthesiologists. I would think THEY

would be the ones to talk with about it. When I had my surgeries, I

had two different ones, and each came in to talk with me for a LONG

time prior to my surgery. They asked me all sorts of questions about

how I personally reacted to various anesthesias. I told them how I

had awakened during a surgery and how frightening that was, and how

difficult it was to put me to sleep because everything that usually

knocks people out, makes me hyper. I told them about my nausea when

I had surgery in the past and how that was the WORST part about it

for me. IN fact, I told them about my hair loss, I think.

They were both VERY VERY nice and knowlegable. I don't think I would

give up in trying to speak to someone who may know more about it, if

you are interested in using Dr. Feng. It would be such a shame if

you could not take advantage of her skills and expertise, if there is

any way to have the right type of anesthesia.

My concern for both you and Pearl, is that once you have telogen

effluvium, it can happen so easily with ANYTHING. You already have a

system that is compromised, you know you are susceptible, and there

are already many known medications which can cause it (and products.)

In fact, they even have a way to contact the FDA about medications

and report which ones have caused telogen effluvium. Even a general

anesthesia and the trauma of surgery could trigger this condition in

both of you.

I think you may face this risk no matter what happens, sorry to say.

I know it is very depressing, but in susceptible patients, even

aspirin, childbirth or jetlag can trigger it. I have been battling it

for 12 years and am still holding my breath. However, I did not lose

all my hair when I was explanted with Dr. Feng. I did have a slight

increase in hair in my hairbrush at first, and I panicked, but it was

quite slight compared to the other times.
