Guest guest
According to nurse Glenis , " The risk to bone mass for those with M.E. [myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome] comes from several sources. Firstly, due to the fatigue and pain often associated with the illness, there may be a lack of movement and general immobility. This means that the bones are not being stimulated on a regular basis and so bone mass begins to decline. Secondly, pain and low energy make regular exercise difficult, if not impossible, for many patients. Thirdly, some people with M.E. may have gastric problems such as nausea, diarrhea and constipation leading to insufficient calcium for the bones and poor absorption of the nutrients in the diet. Others may experience a loss of appetite and food intolerance, again causing a lack of calcium. A calcium supplement may be necessary in these cases.
