Guest guest
most states have stream-lined the proceedure...usually u can apply by phone interview..that doesnt mean approval is any easier...the main thing is to have doctors approval and follow their requirements..but at least the paperwork mess is a lot less...frank carnes betnden@... wrote: In August, I took my wife to the SS office to apply for disability. Today, we got the award letter, so she can start collecting in January. They're holding back 2 months pay in case she got any SSI, which she didn't, so that will come along soon. I can't believe how easy and quick it was after my own experience. It took 2 years for me! Guest guest
I'm still dumbfounded by this. When I applied, it was in 1991 and the Americans with Disabilities Act was in it's infancy. A lawyer might have helped me, but when I asked one what she could do for me, her answer was a simple, " I know what papers to fill out next " . I already knew that! In this case with Betty, I wasn't feeling like getting into a scrap with any of the SS folks, so I figured the lawyer would be the lesser evil. I don't think they were doing much because I got a call from the lawyer's office wanting to know why there was no documentation for treatment from this specific hospital. We never went there and didn't list it in the paperwork. Luckily, Betty's health has been good all her life except for the Diabetes. Now, she's just falling apart and gaining too much weight from some of the meds she's taking and from her natural propensity for weight gain. While we were teaching the kids to water ski, she was swimming around for a couple of hours and gained 3-4 pounds instead of losing. She's like that, though. And, yes, it is a blessing just in time for Christmas. I'm overjoyed for her. Now, though, we need her Medicare as soon as possible. I'm afraid that with her sudden income, she may not qualify for some of the programs she has now. It costs more than her income will be for the meds for a month. But, we'll take our blessings any way they come.
