Pennie [ ] Re:MTX & Folic Acid Hi Pennie, This is Steph in VA. I have been on methotrexate since 1999. I started at 7.5 mg/week with 1mg of folic acid per day. I now take 20 mg of methotrexate/ week with 3mg of folic acid a day. The folic acid does reduce side effects, for me anyway. I get folic acid by prescription. The over the counter folic acid comes in mcg, so it would be much more expensive to purchase it that way. I pay $10 a month for 90 1 mg tablets.
