Guest guest
Dear Ilena, Bonnie, , ,and anyone else who may find this subject of interest, I am writing to try to help clarify the questions about wax/paraffin that had asked the group on Friday. and I have been corresponding for a few weeks now about a problem she has that doesn't actually pertain to breast implants, but is similar to our plight. We have some resources that have been helpful to her, and I believe we may have more. She has some questions that I am unable to answer, so I suggested that she write to Ilena, and ask Ilena to post her questions to the group. I also suggested that she send the questions to our other support groups, too. I am going attempt to summarize her problem, and maybe it will clarify this issue, and perhaps someone can help answer her questions. has been INJECTED multiple times with a combination of wax/paraffin/bees wax. A pathologist has confirmed that the ingredients that she was injected with are indeed a combination of waxes. How and why this happened is personal and I don't feel it is my place to elaborate, except to say that it was done against her will, and it was not done for cosmetic reasons in anyway. She would like to know whether any of us know if there are any tests, such as ultrasound, PET scan, MRI, etc, that would show the wax, that is still implanted in her body. She specifically would like to know about PET Scans at this time, and whether or not anyone knows or can hypothesize whether or not the wax combination would show up using this type of scan. She is also searching for any kind of information anyone may have about wax/paraffin, such as how harmful it is to the body when implanted, how can it be removed, and any other information any of us might have or be able to find. I have been trying to help her by conducting searches using several different keyword combinations, and have found some very interesting information, but not as much as she needs. I found that paraffin was one of the first mediums used to augment breasts. They quit using it when they found that it became very hard when implanted, but that because of body temperature it could cause the wax to soften and it then could move throughout the entire body. The warm wax can travel to the heart and/or brain and cause serious problems such as heart attacks, and strokes. And, it can clog tiny arterioles and capillaries. Wax implanted in the body can also cause a type of cancer referred to as " waxoma. " Paraffin/wax was also once used to " plump " women's lips and to fill in the creases made by wrinkles, too, and this was still in practice not that long ago. I also found that not only was wax used as a medium to enlarge breasts. Glass balls, sea sponges, and various types of injected oils were also used. Then, they began using silicone and we know the rest of the story from there. This is off of the subject, but it may be of interest to some. When melted wax was injected into a woman's breast tissue, it became semi-hard and was able to travel throughout the woman's body causing hard irregular-sized lumps literally all over which had to be removed. Removal was difficult and messy. I could not find much more information about how the wax was actually removed or what the results were. This is one question that is trying to find an answer to. Glass balls became very painful when contracture occurred. The information I found on this did not specify if the balls were hollow or solid. And, it didn't say if they ever broke or shattered once implanted inside a woman's breast. It only stated that it was extremely painful, as I'm sure we can all imagine. Sea sponges shrunk in size and became very hard once implanted in the body. The body would reject the foreign sponges, and the results were ugly, very hard, mishapen, lumps upon a woman's chest. The results were disasterous. Around the late 1900's, various types of oils were also used in an attempt to enlarge a woman's breasts. Depending upon the type of oil used, different serious side-effects occured. Even after the oil injections proved to be failed attempts of breast augmentation, Soy Oil encased in silicone envelopes were still marketed and implanted in women's bodies only a few years ago. Back to my original reason for writing this email, here are the questions that would like to ask the group, and hopefully, she will find some answers. I appreciate the efforts made by our members to help Steph very much, and I know she does, too. Here are the questions she posted about the paraffin that has been injected into her body. Thank you and May God Bless Each of You~ With love, Lany From: nusker1@... (stephanie k carpenter ( by way of ilena rose) Date: Fri, Feb 22, 2002, 5:28pm Subject: PLease Post...thanks Hi Ilena...Just a word of thanks for all the help that everyone has been...I am making slow but forward progress on my wax/paraffin situation and am awaiting some very important results and reports from some of the contacts that I have been given by individuals on this site...Merci and thanks many times over... I have a few more questions that I thought maybe someone may have some knowledge about.... 1st...does anyone have any knowledge as to whether or not an ultrasound will detect and show wax/paraffin in the tissues effected by this JUNK!? I am scheduled for this to be done to probably most of my body in the near future...I know that it can help with the silicone detection...what about wax/paraffin? 2nd...Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with PET scans? Do you think this might be a better way to detect the wax/paraffin? ( a lot of the JUNK is very visible underneath the skin and by the ever growing tumor-like lumps on my legs, shins, etc....and I believe it is effecting other not so visible areas....I now have an MVP that I did not have a few years earlier...) Can anyone shed light on any of this or have any other advise or ideas...?????? Thanks again....Merci and God Bless....in the name of my precious Jesus...stephanie SBI Prayer Forum Ilena, I am forwarding my reply to about the questions she recently asked about paraffin wax. If you feel others might want this info please forward to the group. Otherwise, delete. Bonnie Dear , Paraffin treatments are WONDERFUL!!! to help temporarily relieve pain in the feet and hands, especially neurological pain from atypical MS and peripheral neuropathy, but also other types of pain. You can buy a paraffin machine at Walgreens, and probably Walmart and lots of convenient places these days for under $50. It is a little plastic tub about 8 " x12 " . You also get little blocks of hard paraffin that you place in the tub and plug it in. The paraffin melts from the heat. When it is ready you place one foot and/or hand into the tub of very warm paraffin and feel like that foot has gone to heaven. You dip the foot in and out of the paraffin about ten times, then wrap it in a plastic bag they give you, do the same thing for the other foot and two hands and let them sit for about ten to twenty minutes. This holds the warmth in the foot or hand for awhile. You then take off the plastic bag, peel off the hardened paraffin and a great deal of the pain goes with it. This doesn't last forever, but it is so good to have relief when you are hurting. It is wonderful that this is now available to the public. At one time to get this treatment you had to go to a physical therapist each time you used it. The hidden expense is the paraffin. After awhile you have to replace it. It can cost about $10 a block and takes five or six blocks to fill the machine. I found the most inexpensive place to replace it is from the two TV shopping networks on cable TV. I think Home Shopping is a little cheaper than QVC. It costs about $25-$30 plus shipping rather than $60. Just call the number on the screen to get info. They also have the machines. You usually get the first set of paraffin blocks when you purchase the machine. Mine is made by Homedics, but they are all probably quite similar. Good luck. I hope it gives you as much comfort as it has me.
