Hi Tim, and Welcome!

This is a wonderful group of very supportive and

informative people - you have come to the right place!

I have been dx with RA for 7 years, and my first

medication was Plaquenil. I took it without any

difficulty, no side effects at all, for almost 2-1/2

years with Motrin, and occasionally with Prednisone

for bad flares, and did really well until it kind of

started loosing its affectiveness as the RA

progressed.

The only thing about Plaquenil is that you need to

have funduscopic exams of your eyes about every 6

months to check for the very rare problem of retinal

damage from the med - I had no problem at al.

I think that Plaquenil is a great starter drug,

because it is the least toxic (in my opinion, and I am

no doctor lol) of the RA DMARDs. You don't have to

get blood work done every 8 weeks like you do when you

move on to things like Methotrexate which are hard on

your liver. If you can make do on Plaquenil, that

will be great. I hope it works as well for you as it

did for me.

If you have any other questions, just ask -
