Guest guest
, I recently met with our local Hygeia rep. I was impressed with both the products and the set up; I know her so I feel like I would get good service. My only concerns weren't particular to them, but to a start up company: inventory and long term support. My partner Beth and I are considering signing on with Hygeia in order to be able to provide rental pumps to our clients. Much less start up cost than Ameda, although we want to carry them, too, eventually. Has anyone worked with Hygeia? Any feedback or anything we should know before we sign on? Guest guest
I have worked with Hygeia. They are located in my back yard.I have worked with mom's who own one and have rented one.I work some in a store that sells them and rents them.Personally I really like the company and what they stand for. All my clients have been very successful pumping with their pumps. All my clients have been happy with the product. So far I like it and am thinking of switching from Medela to Hygeia.Again I am very impressed with the company. I know some WIC agencies are starting to use Hygeia rather than Medela. Again I think they have put a lot of thought into their products. They plan on providing all the brfding products not just pumps.Shari My partner Beth and I are considering signing on with Hygeia in order to be able to provide rental pumps to our clients. Guest guest
We trialed some in our outpatient clinic. The only complaint I have is they do not have larger flange sizes than 24mm. I work with so many mothers who need to swap out those flanges for larger ones I would not be ok having only 1 size available. If they would address that I would dump Medela in a heartbeat. > > My partner Beth and I are considering signing on with Hygeia in order > to be able to provide rental pumps to our clients. Guest guest
Well that would be great! When we trialed them the flanges were permanently attached to the rest of the shell for lack of better description that had the bottle threads on it. You could not take it apart, it was one piece. I'll definitely look into it. Thanks, > > > > > > My partner Beth and I are considering signing on with Hygeia in order > > > to be able to provide rental pumps to our clients. Guest guest
I have been a hygeia pump rental station for 6 months. I have received good customer support the entire time. I think they are very sensitive to needs of small rental stations and private practice lactation consultants. Their polices and way of doing business supports my needs. Two draw back I have experienced are that twice when I tried to order EnJoy personal use pump it was on backorder for an extended period of time. They have reassured me it won't be a problem again. Time will tell. The other challenge is all the hospitals in my area have pumps by another brand very large company and moms want to stay with brand they used in hospital. However the rental fee Hygeia charges me is less than what I pay for the pump to lease other brand, so I can charge less to rent a Hygeia pump and some moms want to rent less expensive pump. I tell moms they can rent the hygeia and if they are unhappy with it I will bring them the other brand, I haven't yet had a mom ask to rent the other brand. Guest guest
The Hygeia parts fit on the Medela pump and vice versa, so from what I understand, moms can use the kit they got in the hospital on a Hygeia EnDeare rental pump. Plus, if they used a Lactina, the EnDeare looks pretty familiar to them. I like that my familiarity with Medela pumps from having been a dealer for them several years ago will translate into an immediate understanding of this line -- less of a learning curve. I just wish they had even larger flanges, plus nipple shields and at-breast supplementers. Oh, and Tanita/BabyWeigh type scales! But maybe they will in time. Guest guest
The only difference is that you need to remove the yellow triangular end of Medela tubing in order to use it on Hygeia. My experience has been that mother's don't want me to remove the end of tubing and want to keep the option to switch back to Medela and so I have bought just the Hygeia tubing and sell those to the mother with those concerns. The Hygeia parts fit on the Medela pump and vice versa, so from what I understand, moms can use the kit they got in the hospital on a Hygeia EnDeare rental pump. Guest guest
I rent and sell Hygeia pumps too. My clients have been happy with them. They do have larger flange sizes now, as others have mentioned. The standard is 27mm a also, so it's big enough for more moms. I have been using their Hazelbaker finger feeder as an at-breast supplementer, although I also use plain 5 fr tubing. I was also stuck in the prolonged back order annoyance, but my rep went out of her way to make sure I had what my mommies needed. I have also been using their hydrogels. I really like that the pumps are fda certified to be safe to use with multiple moms, so she can sell it or pass it on to a friend. Guest guest
Actually the standard flanges are 27mm – not 24mm. And, if you pull hard enough the flanges will pop out of the connector – they are just glued in. J Of course I don’t know if we are supposed to tell that to the client… J Also, they work well with the Pumpin Pal flanges that I personally prefer significantly over the Medela ones… I sell the Hygeia EnJoye and I’d like to rent the EnDeare – just trying to figure out what to do with my Medela Inventory… Personally I like the company. And the back order thing wasn’t their fault – it was the State of California and their red-tape that makes businesses leave the state in droves… Warmly, Jaye Jaye Simpson, IBCLC, CIIM Breastfeeding Network Sacramento, CA www.breastfeedingnetwork.net

Guest guest
Just a couple of weeks ago, I got another report of a Hygiea rental pump that started screeching loud enough to wake the baby and then stopped working. Guest guest
When I talked with a sales rep in Sept, they had only one larger size. Medela collection kits fit on the Hygiea pumps but at a loss of about 20mm Hg suction. Ameda kits also fit but drop the suction to a miserable high of only about 160-180 mm Hg suction. Guest guest
Are any of you suffering with the Medela nipple shield famine? That has been a ridiculous fiasco...and we've had problems with their pump kit stock too. I would love to get rid of Medela. I just tried to order some nipple shields from Medela and they're all on back order until late Jan. I also wanted a couple of SNS's and was told I had to order by the case until I balked and then was told I could get the non-sterile package and only order two---what the heck I can boil parts before having mom use. I'm furious with Medela as they could care less it seems with the small practice person. An LC friend of mine said she feels they're concerned only with big business, like Babies R Us. Besides ameda, who else has decent nipple shields? in different sizes, too. And any good resources for Hazelbaker finger feeders that don't cost 50 dollars, or close to that? I feel the cost of equipment is outrageous and the mark-up has been practically doubled in the past 2-3 yr.; it's so not fair to moms who have to purchase things. (I never sell Medela equipment at sugg retail). One last question--any Tanita scales out there? I would love to quit leasing the Baby Weigh which by now, past 14 yr, I've paid for 3x over!
