Guest guest
hi nancy and donna, just wanted to say that a pedometer has been a big help to me. before i got a fitbit, i wore an omron pedometer for 2 years. it is fun to log how many steps i do each day and have a number each day to shoot for and to then achieve it. :*carolyn. Guest guest
> Mine's an omron, was a really good one when I bought it and it > did motivate me to move. my omron worked great for 2 years and then the battery finally died. i put various new batteries in it, but they would never last past a day or two. i dont know why, it was very frustrating. i was just going to buy a new one but a good one was expensive, so i just got the fitbit instead. im really glad that i did.... just having something count the steps is fabulous and a big help, but the fitbit and its website try to take it further by incorporating food monitoring. even if you just use the fitbit as a pedometer, and dont use the website to log food and watch your intake vs burn, there are leaderboards and badges and charts for step counts and floor counts as well, which is also quite motivating. :*carolyn. Guest guest
Hmmmm... I've never tried changing the battery... guess we'll see what happens (when I get around to it that is). The fitbit does sound extremely cool, I love the idea of the leaderboards and awards and such, I can see those being very motivating! I'm glad it is working so great for so many of you! I'm not ready to jump into it right now but am reading the threads about it. Considering my lovely car decided to make a very loud bang noise yesterday as I was going to a church leadership retreat that turned out to be the shock & strut on the right side breaking and costing me $534 to replace both sides (can't replace just one side)... I'm not making too many expenditures right now. Just when I felt like we were getting into a comfortable place and I was making progress on debt... there goes another ding to my credit card. Oh well, I'll keep reading your discussions and cheering you all on and maybe at least buy a battery for my omron when my feet are all better! :-) Re: pedometer > Mine's an omron, was a really good one when I bought it and it> did motivate me to move.my omron worked great for 2 years and then the battery finally died. i put various new batteries in it, but they would never last past a day or two. i dont know why, it was very frustrating. i was just going to buy a new one but a good one was expensive, so i just got the fitbit instead. im really glad that i did.... just having something count the steps is fabulous and a big help, but the fitbit and its website try to take it further by incorporating food monitoring. even if you just use the fitbit as a pedometer, and dont use the website to log food and watch your intake vs burn, there are leaderboards and badges and charts for step counts and floor counts as well, which is also quite motivating.:*carolyn. Guest guest
I had my Omron for years, and changed the batteries a few times without any problems. Yours will probably be OK.Oh my, cars can cost so much money. Hmmmm... I've never tried changing the battery... guess we'll see what happens (when I get around to it that is). Guest guest
Thanks, I should try it just to see how it works. Cars are awful money pits, worse than houses sometimes and you can't normally build equity in them. Mine is 8 years old, well over 100,000 miles. I desperately want to replace it but taking out another loan seems worse than sinking money into it. At some point, the loan is going to look much more attractive though, I think. Here in Michigan, cars are central to our way of life though (Detroit is the Motor City, after all) and without much in the way of really useful public transportation in most areas (and I live too far away from most of my work and have to carry too much with me for most of it to ride a bike or walk too) we have to find ways to keep the cars going. They keep talking about creating infrastructure that will make public transportation reliable and far-reaching but it has yet to happen. I could make a different choice & move somewhere with a good public transportation system, but I like it here too much so I'll just deal with my car issues (besides, I'd have different worries of the same magnitude if I did move somewhere else I'm sure)! Guest guest
Out here in California, good luck trying to build equity in real estate, LOL! Not anymore. Everybody is under water. So true: no matter where you live, there are some pluses and minuses.Plus, you've got real weather to deal with, . Good luck with that car thing. Thanks, I should try it just to see how it works. Guest guest
Oh yeah, we know all about being under water... ugh. Repair shop offered us 10% discount to pay cash so I looked at what checks were already out, decided I could hold off paying a couple of bills until DH gets paid Friday, held my breath and went to the bank. It won't be a fun April but at least that's one less thing to pay off too. Someday I'm going to win the lottery and not have to worry about these things... some day I'm also going to buy a lottery ticket so I'll have a chance to do that! ;-) Re: pedometer > Mine's an omron, was a really good one when I bought it and it> did motivate me to move.my omron worked great for 2 years and then the battery finally died. i put various new batteries in it, but they would never last past a day or two. i dont know why, it was very frustrating. i was just going to buy a new one but a good one was expensive, so i just got the fitbit instead. im really glad that i did.... just having something count the steps is fabulous and a big help, but the fitbit and its website try to take it further by incorporating food monitoring. even if you just use the fitbit as a pedometer, and dont use the website to log food and watch your intake vs burn, there are leaderboards and badges and charts for step counts and floor counts as well, which is also quite motivating.:*carolyn.
