Guest guest
Interesting.. I think any machine not set up correctly is dangerous but the leg extension has been recommended to me by both ortho's I see and one set me up so I know how it feels.. he always has me do that and the inner/outer thigh machine. One legged squats he said were dangerous for my knees until I get the tendons stronger.. so one thing is to see why and where they get info.I had this argument with my parents.. 90% of the "this food prevents this" studies are observational and only show an assocation not a causation... ok can you tell I have been grading papers:Glad to be back.. will be back to workouts tomrrowjudy To: exercisevideos Sent: Sunday, March 25, 2012 3:24 PM Subject: 10 Exercise Machines to Avoid | Yahoo! Health I found this very interesting! I have used most of the machines discussed and of all the ones here I've used there is not one, except maybe the leg press, but I can see where that wouldn't be so great either, that I actually liked. Most I either felt unsafe in (that leg extension hurt my knee and when I told a trainer it did she told me I'd get used to it, I never went to her again) or just said what is the point of this (that would be the outer thigh machine especially)? http://health.yahoo.net/articles/fitness/photos/10-exercise-machines-avoid#
Guest guest
LOL I've seen this before and yep, I have used and do use most of these except the behind the neck latpull down and seated pec fly machine. For seated leg extensions I try and be careful and not go too heavy. I also don't like smith machine squats and prefer the alternative they show too. I don't think I've ever used the roman chair situp. I'm more of a traditionalist with the abs. The torso twist machine I do on occasion because it's so silly looking! I don't take it too seriously though. Just read the directions on the macines, look on YouTube for tips on proper form or ask the people that work there, use your good judgement and you should be fine. I found this very interesting! Guest guest
My DH said the leg extension machine helped him when he was running a lot. I agree too, if the machine isn't set up properly it won't be safe no matter what. Same with using free weights or even body weight if you're not using good form. Does the ortho have you use the thigh machine for your knees? Mine often didn't feel strong enough (when I was having knee issues a lot) to do that one. When I did feel good in it, I had the resistance low enough that it probably wasn't doing much for my outer thigh! I need you at my meetings... I get so many people quoting Dr. Oz and other popular press telling me "this food is good for that and this food raises your metabolism and this food makes you less hungry so you lose weight and this food will help you fly to the moon..." yeah, I hate that stuff too. 10 Exercise Machines to Avoid | Yahoo! Guest guest
I'm not a fan of weight machines because of my height. I'm only 5' and it's hard to adjust the machines to fit me. They make me feel like I'm a child sitting in a high-chair!There are others here shorter than I am too! Jen Subject: 10 Exercise Machines to Avoid | Yahoo! Guest guest
I'm the same way. I have a hard time adjusting them so that I feel safe. I've tried having trainers help me, but I still don't feel good in most of them. There are a few I've really liked a lot but not many. 10 Exercise Machines to Avoid | Yahoo!
