Guest guest
I only watched one episode of BL, and I got " bad vibes " about it right off... It didn't look like " healthy " workouts to me. There was Waaaaaayy too much Hollywood hype for my tastes. Indyrose, who only has one TV and rarely uses it for anything but workouts! > > I know a lot of you like me watch The Biggest Loser. Guest guest
I don't doubt some of this, especially the dehydration tactics (which are commonplace in many competitive arenas), but the skeptic in me always says, "Is anyone besides this one person saying all this?" and "What does she get out of saying this stuff and is she planning to write a book too?" Meaning, is some of it exaggerated and not necessarily just is she getting paid for saying it but what does she get out of it on other levels (having an axe to grind or something else too). If it was as bad as she's saying it was too, then why did she stay? I do realize a lot of the contestants struggle with low self-esteem and other issues but I'm not ready to jump on that bandwagon to say that's why she stayed. And the money she might have won could not have been that much of an incentive given what she's saying about the conditions. I notice she was a finalist, not the winner and not someone who went home earlier... she came close which might make her angrier too. Again, I'm not saying I doubt everything she's saying, I always tell people who come to WW, "This is not The Biggest Loser. Healthy weight loss, by medical standards, not just from WW, is 1/2 - 2 lbs. per week, especially after the first few weeks." So, I'm sure there are some "tricks" they're employing to make the weight loss higher, some of which is likely not healthy but this woman's comments are so extreme that it makes me skeptical, especially since the show has been on as long as it has, you'd think more people would come out against it or quit early on or something. Meanwhile, I know they also have to have extensive confidentiality agreements in place so maybe that's why we haven't heard much but I'm not ready to jump up and down angry about how people are treated without hearing a corroborating story. I have to say again too, these people do have a choice about staying or not and beyond that, I really dislike it when people complain after the fact about something they willingly put up with, makes me even more skeptical. Like I said at the beginning, I don't doubt some of this but I have to wonder about swallowing all of it too. (who will be watching BL tomorrow but will probably be watching for signs of something being wrong even more so than I usually do...) Guest guest
True, she could have ulterior motives but I have seen the trainers worked injured contestants before and I see all the pressure these obese people are putting on their joints by running so hard on treadmills - it's hard enough on MY joints at my weight, I can't imagine what it's doing to them. I've also seen crappy kettlebell form on the show and I'm sure injuries have resulted from that too. It will be interesting to see if other past contestants chime in, though they probably have to sign a disclosure agreement when the get signed on the show so who knows.Time will tell I guess! And yes, bodbuilders dehydrate before their competitions too, it's a common practice. Guest guest
I agree, I've seen trainers appear to work people far too hard for the sake of TV excitement too and don't understand how some of the things they do can be considered safe but then again, if you're choosing to put yourself through things you consider abusive or degrading at the time they're happening and can easily walk away without fear of further harm, then I say you have a lot less reason to gripe and a lot less credibility with me, especially if you're complaining after the fact (especially when you didn't win the big money that was at stake). Her claims might also be very accurate and if so, then maybe we shouldn't find it entertaining and should be calling for them to shut down the show and sticking up for people who, for whatever the reason, aren't sticking up for themselves. I'm open to both possibilities... Abuse on Biggest Loser I know a lot of you like me watch The Biggest Loser. Guest guest
Yeah, I'm open to both too. Guest guest
I don't believe all of this. Like everything else on tv and the internet..the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.
