Awesome work, !  Happy to hear the triceps are sore :)  I love that feeling because it means you worked hard and didn't waste your time!Good job on the Pilates!  Maybe the other workouts on the dvd as less instructional?

Oh! I forgot!   As a reward for doing the triceps I said I'd give you another one, didn't I?shoulders, 3 sets of 10:overhead presslateral raisereverse flysfront raisesupright rows

arm circles " scarecrows " (for the rotator cuff) either standing or side lyinghave fun!

Well, despite my unknowingly doing my own version of some exercises in yesterday's triceps workout, I have very wonderfully sore triceps today so whatever I did worked! :-)

Today I did Liz Gillies' Zone Pilates Mat & Ball Workout: Pilates Mat Workout. There are 2 other workouts on this DVD, both with a stability ball. I went with this one because it is a virgin & a floor workout. Liz explains form well except she doesn't always explain foot position and I thought that was important but am not positive. I tried to imitate her, even if she didn't say how to hold your feet. She is much more engaging than Mari Winsor though. This was a VERY instructional workout. The breakdown of the moves is very slow and great for a beginner. I have some pilates experience so it was too broken down for me and too slow moving to do much for me. She says often " this is another classic pilates exercise " and I kept thinking, isn't that what this is supposed to be? It seemed to be until the very end. For some bizarre reason, you do " swimmer " I think she called it (similar to superman with opposite arm/leg extended then switch to the other two) and then, I think this was the sequence, she has you do plank (with arms extended, even those this is primarily for beginners, no modification discussed or shown) then 5 push-ups on toes! All I could think was, since when are push-ups classic pilates moves (then again, she didn't say they were) and how do they fit in with this very beginner workout? Was she bored too and wanted to throw in something more challenging?! Then move to standing, do a quick standing stretch and you're done. It seemed like a weird way to end.

I did the workout barefoot because I was on the mat the entire time, that was nice not having shoes on for a while. I did the push-ups on my toes and another move or 2 earlier that seemed like they might hurt. The first one did at first but then it stopped and plank was fine. Push-ups were too. I decided to get brave later in the day and tried doing a mountain to downward dog to plank to chatturanga to upward facing dog to down dog sequence on my own just to see how the toes would handle down dog and the transition to up dog especially. I haven't done any yoga in months. It seemed okay but we'll see how I am at 3 or 4 A M which is when pain wakes me up if it is going to. I see the podiatrist tomorrow early morning so will talk with him about how things are going and what to expect. If all is well tonight and he doesn't say anything against it, I think I'm actually going to try and do a yoga practice tomorrow. We'll see.

Thank you, ! I've done one other workout on the DVD, it was supposedly a fat burner whatever. It did not raise my heart rate at all but it did work the lower body somewhat. I don't remember details, I'm going off my notes from when I did it 2009! I actually had this one on the trade pile then realized I hadn't done the other 2 workouts yet so now I want to at least try the last one to see if it will redeem the disc. It is, I think, a total body scultping workout using the ball and focusing on pilates somehow too. We'll see I guess.

Oooooh, another workout!! Thank you, I'm so excited!!! I recognize most of these exercises (and can even picture how to do them!) but I'm not sure about scarecrows. What is that? Is it the one where your elbow stays on the ground and you're raising a weight towards your body? (Not sure I'm describing it right but the rotator cuff is what I'm remembering from a couple of videos.) I'm hoping to fit this in on Friday (weird day because the kids are off school and making plans with friends, I'm off work but need to grocery shop and I'm sleeping in so not sure at all what time I'll be doing a workout which means it might not happen but this is actually incentive to make time for it! :-)

I love working out barefoot. I never wear shoes when I'm doing an all upper body workout. With pilates, I've never been a fan of it. I've tried, but just can't get into it. It is tough, that's for sure.

Good for you, .

The jury is still out on pilates here... this one didn't help the cause either! ;-)

Yay!  You got 'er done, NdeW!   Have you done Winsor's Glutes and Thighs one?  I think that's what it's called.  OW.  The ab tape is good too.

Yes. I wrote " pilates " because I did the Winsor 20 Minute Workout.

I've done the Winsor Glutes and Thighs -- It's about an intermediate workout,

nicely paced, and yes, it really concentrates on the hips and thighs!! It's all

floor exercises, so I like doing it as an add-on or when my feet are acting up.

Good for you doing pilates, . I've tried so hard to like it but just don't. Sorry about you foot AND the doctor fees. That seems to go right along with the job loss. :( I hear you on peoples reactions, we got that too. Sending good vibes your way.~~ Sent from my Thunderbolt 4GLTE ----- Reply message -----To: <exercisevideos >Subject: pilatesDate: Tue, May 15, 2012 9:58 am Yes. I wrote "pilates" because I did the Winsor 20 Minute Workout. I don't know why I dread doing pilates so much because I actually enjoy this workout and the two or three times I've ever done it (including today) I feel great when I get done. Mari irritates me a bit but other instructors irritate me a lot more. Anyway, I did pilates because the soles of my feet (the heel area) are still aching AND my stupid right toe decided to start bugging me a bit last night. The doc adjusted my orthotics last week and I'm not sure it helped but might have hurt. Of course, I was also lugging stuff up and down stairs quite a bit yesterday (my informal workout) so that might have something to do with it too. Part of me is whining, "still, it shouldn't have to be this way" and the self-reflecting part calmly answers "but it is this way too because my feet aren't 100% and I try to act like they are just because they feel better." I know the game. I need to let them fully recover before I push it too much. I don't always know where too much is though is part of the problem (and the greater part is my own impatience). So anyway, THAT is why I did pilates today! :-) I'm a bit worried because I can't see the doc with a $35 co-pay after the 31st (DH's last paycheck and I'm sure we'll have to pay COBRA to keep our health insurance) and I don't know if it will be better enough to not see him after that so I'm really laying low right now. I'm thinking I might soak my feet in a bath of epson salt too (need to get some anyway), it can't hurt. On the job hunt front too, DH has a few leads he's following up on. We're both telling everyone we know and we're actually hearing good ideas back including names and numbers of people to contact. This is so different from 2008 when he was last laid off. Then, people just said, "I'm so sorry to hear that." As if you'd just told them that you had died. It was awful. I am still nervous but at least more hopeful (please keep the prayers coming, both for a job and for our/my nerves).

Thanks, ! I've never seen my name like that but it works! I have Bun & Thigh Sculpting, if that's what you mean, I haven't done it yet though. I have done the ab one once and thought it was good too. I also have the instructional tape and Accelerated Body Sculpting. That one is 51 minutes long though and I'm not sure I want to take that on yet but we'll see. I think I'll focus on these types of workouts this week. Of course, my goofy daughter got me to do Just Dance with her tonight (for Wii). She suckered me into it too by putting on the 80s dance music. That is QUITE a workout! I could see using that on my own sometime when she's at school too! I just did one song but it was high impact and I did it but kept thinking, I shouldn't do this and then sat out for another 2 or 3 songs and just watched. I told her when my feet were all healed we'd have ourselves one heck of a sweaty dance party. The best thing about it was that she was too busy following her on-screen lead to laugh at me! I meant to mention too that after my morning workout I also did 10 pushups (knees, too scared to put pressure on the toes) and then 10 with ab roller too (the last 2 or 3 were lousy form and I should have stopped).

I have a very strong resistance to it (pilates) but when I actually do it, I don't hate it like I expect to. Seriously weird. Thanks for the vibes, I definitely need them. I'll see how things go tonight/tomorrow morning. When DH was laid off last time, my oncologist told me not to worry about having to pay for the visit to her, I'm hoping the podiatrist will at least help me out with the co-pay, I'm going to ask just in case. I got a few more leads for DH today, DH too. He's a busy beaver sending resumes, making calls. He's gotten one very nice rejection letter so far, hopefully he'll get some return calls or better soon... I'm trying so hard to keep positive. It isn't easy but it isn't nearly as hard as last time, thankfully.

It sounds like your DH is working hard to find something else, bless his heart. You both don't sound like you're giving up. You will persevere. :)

Thanks, ! This is so different from last time. When he was laid off in 2008 he was still recovering having his kidneys shut down (from a reaction to a med) and from a long Crohn's flare. He was so depressed then (plus he was let go at Thanksgiving, a terrible time to search for a job in any economy) and it was hard to get him moving. This time around, he's all over it. Thankfully, so thankful. I hope it means more good news is coming soon.
