Guest guest
My husband got a smaller scooter- but it is 2 wheeled. Our car could not hold my scooter plus his.so he got this 2 wheeled one. That way we could fit both and our kids in the car. But right after he got it, many areas passed ordinances that 2 wheeled scooters are not permitted. Who would we call to find out if that might be different for a handicapped perrson. He has not used his becuz we were not sure how to find out if there might be an exemption for a handicapped person to use a 2 wheeled scooter as a mobility aide. I would get some sort of handicap sticker for it... by the way one of the malls in houston uses them to get around..this mall is huge..they are really cool!! They even have parking spaces for them. Guest guest
nah, got it at toys r us...by the bicycles....kinda like the scooters where you use one foot to push off on the ground to make it go? But this is electric so you do not have to use foot power, and it has a seat? It was like $100. We got it and then like 3 months later the banned them in our community. I still have my full sized normal handicapped scooter,...... - In , " Ms radar " <aclavern33@a...> wrote: > > dreamer, I assume you are referring to a Segway? Guest guest
Those are not allowed..out mall here has a big sign of things not allow in the mall...the kids play on those...so I can certainly see them saying no. But maybe you can come to an agreement..but I doubt it...they see it as a toy...good luck though...if you get them to change there policy please let me know. Guest guest
yes, they are not allowed here anymore either, but they were when we bought it, they passed the law right after we got it. we got it becuz I have a regular handicapped scooter for myself...and with 3 kids and my scooter- we could not fit another regular handicapped scooter in the car so we got this kind of scooter cuz it works great for my husband and his disability. But now here we sit with it, cuz it has been banned everywhere.and he has nothing to use for mobility, now. I totally understand the reasons why the kids are not allowed to use them....but I was curious if anone else had maybe bought them fo reasons like we bought this one for my husband.and who might I talk to to see about maybe getting him exempt from not being allowed to use it. - In , " Ms radar " <aclavern33@a...> wrote: > > Those are not allowed..out mall here has a big sign of things not > allow in the mall...the kids play on those...so I can certainly see > them saying no. Guest guest
Dreamer have you thought about bring your plight to the media...it might also help with your bank issue too...the Media here loves human interest stories...again Texas is a big about veterens being done wrong...so it would get a lot of airtime and papertime here...just a thought. Guest guest
I have been an activist in the past for veterans rights and for mentally ill childrens and persons rights-for insurance equality for mental illness..and for lots of other issues, but--- if there is a simpler way to find out about or deal with the little scooter issue, I prefer to go that route. Why make a big commotion if it could be handled easier? How many people have both parents disabled and have 3 growwing kids, anyway? - In , " Ms radar " <aclavern33@a...> wrote: > > Dreamer have you thought about bring your plight to the media...it > might also help with your bank issue too...the Media here loves human > interest stories...again Texas is a big about veterens being done > wrong...so it would get a lot of airtime and papertime here...just a > thought. > > Toni > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My husband got a smaller scooter- but it is 2 wheeled. Now we have three people in the house with special needs...Hubby seems to be the only so-called " normal one " which really isn't true. He just refuses to deal with his issues. He is is gulf war veteran. but you are right..if you can get it done without bring out the big guns..that is good. Guest guest
LOL well I meant how many families have both the parents needing a scooter....LOL altho I do personally know 2 other families where both parents do.... and oh yikes yes, I know lots of families with multiple kids with special needs. Mine is mild..and my kids disabilities are mild.....one friend has a profound cerabl palsy child and a child with juvenile RA severe, another has 2 with ducheyyens muscular dystrophy and a 3rd child had some awful horrid medical emergency and wound up with complications and was on a multiple organ transplant list and died, unrelated to his 2 sibs MD. My kids have one friend with cystic fibrosis with a sib with leukemia... and then there are somany many things that are genetic....so yeah, mrore than one kid in the family has special needs or a disability...especially if it is a genetic type. and add in lots of docs are fairly sure some illnesses that there are predispositions for can be triggered by stress.....some auto immune disorders, some cancers for example......and suddenly yes you will find clusters of multiple family members with chronic illnesses. - In , " Ms radar " <aclavern33@a...> wrote: > > Dreamer, > you might be shocked to find there are plenty more.
