Guest guest
Guys, Im still taking the Naprosyn and Prevacid I got this week, but it isn't doing much for me. I really feel like roadkill. Does anyone have any suggestions, so I can survive til I get to the doc again the 12th? Also, Is there a med they typically give you to start with, and if so, are the side effects horrible? Ive heard of people getting needles stuck in their knuckles, and all kinds of stuff. Tell me there's a better way! Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi : When I was first dx almost 7 years ago with RA, I was started on Plaquenil, along with Motrin and Prednisone. My doctor told me at that time that Plaq had the least amount of side effects of all the DMARDs. She also offered me, at that time, Methotrexate, but that one scared me more, so I went with the Plaq. That helped me, along with Motrin, (I tapered off of the Pred within 3 months) for almost 2-1/2 years until the RA became more aggressive. I then switched to Methotrexate, and have been on that now for 4 years, was up to 20 mg., but am now down to 10 mg. with Enbrel. I also tried Arava, but it was too hard on my stomach, and eventually caused peripheral neuropathy in my hands nad feet, so I quit that. I've also tried Minocycline which did not help. Sometimes it is not one med that helps, but a combination of meds. It can take a while to find the right medication(s) because they need to build up in your system, sometimes a few months is necessary. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for the pain and inflammation this disease causes. As far as things you can do now, just try to rest as much as possible and avoid stress which will aggravate the RA. I use hot showers, rice socks on my joints, and heating pads to help with my pain. Also, you could try taking Omega 3 capsules which help with inflammation. Hang in there and let us know what the doctor and you decide on. Guest guest
Try hot bath with epsom salts. There are a few rubs that I use, biofreeze, Sombra and Kool n fit. I get mine from a chiroprator in Long Island. but you should be able to find them at your local chiropractor and some massage therapists that do occupational therapy. I can post the websites if you like. But a quick search of the internet as well as ebay can lead you to plenty of places that you can buy. Eletric blanket or bed warming pad can help. I do not sleep on regular sheets. I use flannel or I sleep wrapped like a taco in a special artic blanket that is soft and warm. I also at times sleep in PJ pants with socks to keep me warm. Beyond that...see if you can see your PCP to get something stronger for pain. Ultram works for some and is what i use..if I need more than that I have Darvocet to use. Everyone is so different in what we can tolerate in the way of meds as well as how much pain we can handle. I hope you feel better. I too have been feeling pretty crappy!!
