Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone has a temporary handicapped card that they can hang in their car dash to use handicap parking when they need it. I certainly don't need to use handicapped parking all the time, but there are times that walking from a distance is a real problem. That proved to be the case at a conference I attended last weekend at a big university. The venues were spread all over the campus, and the parking was a long walk from any of them. They did have a shuttle bus service, but after trying that briefly on the first day, I found that this was even worse than driving/parking/walking. The wait for shuttle busses was long, it was very hot and humid, and there was no plae to sit while waiting for the bus. As a result, I stayed mostly in the venues that were at least REASONABLY close to a parking lot, meaning that there were two areas of the conference that was I never even able to visit at all. While hoofing all over the place, I noticed that there were unused handicapped spaces right beside every one of these buildings. It would have been SO much easier on me if I had been able to use this parking. Is it possible to get a placard if you are only disabled part of the time or in certain circumstances? Does anyone know how you go about it?
