I have the North Carolina state insurance for my secondary insurance

with Medicare as my primary. But the state insurance still is my

prescription insurance. They allow for a 34-day supply instead of 30

days. When I got my Enbrel from CVS, a month's supply, I got a supply

for only 28 days. They said the supplier couldn't send part of a box.

Then my insurance wanted me to get it by mail order, and I could get a

three-month supply at once, which for me would be 102 days, or seven

boxes. The first shipment I got only six boxes, although I had talked

to someone on the phone who agreed that I should get seven boxes.

When it was time to get a new shipment, I called and talked to someone

else, who also agreed that I should get seven boxes. So I did! I did

not get cheated this time.

My co-pay for the 3-month supply is $150. Enbrel is on their upper

tier. It's still a wonderful bargain for me. I don't know how much the

insurance company has to pay. But the last time I got some from CVS,

they had to pay over $1300 for the 28-day supply.

I am sure it depends on your insurance, how much you pay for rx. I

started out getting my MTX at a local pharmacy. My insurance did

not pay at all for injectables unless it came through their mail

order. When I switched to their mail order, it covers the entire

cost for a 3 month supply with no copay, which was a pleasant

surprise. I am in the process of switching over my other meds but

had to wait until the new year to pay three month copay for each

one, which varies from 10, 25 or 45 for each 30 day supply. I had

to wait until my FSA was replenished, because each one would be

either 30, 75 or 135, depending on what tier it is on. It is

expensive to have RA, but I am grateful for my insurance.

Mike

I can not get into my online prescription info..but I think it runs

around the same price for humira for 3 months..that is taking it

every two weeks. Some people take it weekly.

I would go for Enbrel first...make sure you order the one you need to

mix and take twice a week. I started on that. I had NO side effects

and no problems with taking the med. No burning or anything.

I have been told that the new pre-mixed enbrel once a week burns also

due to a preservative they put it in.

I just stared on Humira...yes it does burn..and you have to inject

REALLY slow..its not fun sitting there with a stupid needle hanging

out your stomach..nor does it feel good. My hands are no longer

steady...so slow injecting is NOT good for me.

When I was on Enbrel I believe it was around $4500 for 3 months from

Caremark.com pharmacy....they were also the best about shipping too.

I have tel-drugs.com now...and I have to order from them to get my

insurance to pay for it...their packing and shipping methods

suck..and it will get real fun when its 110 degrees here during the

summer Texas months.

The good thing is that Humira is offering $300 off your first six

months on the drug..you get the card from your rheummy which you

activate. I will see tomorrow if it will work with my insurance. Bu

this is good for someone with no insurance or high co-pay...it can be

used to cover the co-pay.

Mike, sorry i cant help you here. Thru the gracious patient assistance

program Abbot immunology (the makers of Humira), I recieve my meds shipped free

of

cost. We are on only 1 income since it is more cost efficient for me to stay

home and take care of the kids instead of paying for childcare.

Unfortunately neither of our families care to babysit our wonderfull

kids...their loss.

Now with RA, i am very doubtfull i can even hold a job :( But time will tell.

i see all of your stories, most of you older than i am and its kinda

scary,... but i am so glad i joined. There has been more support here in the

last

week or so than i have had in a long time. ok i'm done rambling for now. hugs

Mike. I too take Enbrel. A 3 month supply for me runs about $3700.00, however

with my current insurance i only pay $62.50.

Mike,

I did some checking with Tel-drugs Cigna mail-order pharmacy..A three

month supply of Humira cost $3,824.24.

Enbrel twice weekly for three months cost $956.06

Enbrel once a week for three months cost $1,951.17

Now I see why they want you on Enbrel first.

Mike,

If you shop around, the prices vary. Drugstore.com has enbrel for

625.00 a box.

http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/prices/drugprice.asp?

ndc=58406042534 & aid=337096

I didn't check americarx.com but they also have prices much cheaper.

Many say that the burning is not that bad and the relief they get is

well worth the few seconds of burning.
