Annie i so know how you feel. When i am having a bad day ( like today) i do

as little as possible and eat whatever strikes my mood. Soaking in a nice hot

bath helps, but with 2 young kids runnin around that dosent happen often

enough. I hate to do it but i'm goin back on prerdnisone for a while. Knees and

knuckles are swelling again... dammit. HUGS hope you all get to feelin better

soon.

prednisone is a steroid that reduces inflamation and swelling in the joints;

but if taken over long periods of time could cause other health issues.

Works wonders for me, but also makes me hungry 24/7 and very moody.... so its

kind of a win lose situation. lol

No Duh I don't look like myself! My topamax makes me act as smart as

my 13 month old and require more sleep. my fibromyalgia doesn't allow

me to walk in a straight line and my lupus is making my hair fall out.

I'm glad my hair was thick to start with or I'd be bald. My natural

every day expression even looks pained. I'm having a bad day and wish

that I could just get hit by a bus or something. (I'm only saying that

but I know you all understand what I mean) I'm having a don't want to

get out of bed I want my mommy and daddy kind of day.

What kind of thing brings you comfort? watching a good movie? eating

something special? I used to read a book but my topamax makes my eyes

dart around and make me feel like a retard.

It's not that bad, Annie. When you get hungry from the Prednisone, don't eat

all that fattening food. Do as I do and when the hungries get to you, grab

some Blue Bell ice cream and vanilla cookies and eat that until the munchies

go away. It works for me and I've been taking Prednisone for 16 years!

Belle in NC........and they better never try to take it away! lol I just saw a

new flavor.........nutty coconut, sounds good to me!!

My step daughter used to bring it with her from Houston, when she would fly out

Annie,

Know what you mean. However, I kinda wish for those days where people

were saying you don't look sick. I never hear that anymore. Those

were the good old days. (smile)

But, I know what you mean only it used to feel more like I was hit BY

that bus you are talking about…and that maybe it backed up a couple of

times and hit me again. hahaha!

I don't take Topamax but the prednisone can have you pretty spaced out

as well and moody, and depressed. It's a true catch-22 with some

medications used to treat/relieve symptoms of the auto-immune

conditions.

Hang in there.

peace and healing energy to you.

I love Blue Bunny Ice Cream! It's hard to find around here though.

It's easy to find the different ice cream bars though. I haven't

tried many of thoses. I'm not big on sugar alcohols. I've had

gastric bypass so I try to just stay away from junk be it real or

fake.

Annie,

you have every right to feel the way you do!! And whatever makes you

feel good is what you need...a nap with a soft golden oldie favorite

blanket, ice cream with fudge sauce and a good chick flick, those

little chocolate cookies that your mother used to make, pizza for

breakfast,lunch and dinner....oreos and milk....whatever makes you

feel better.....go for it!!

You realize don't you that a lot of us.... " dont look like ourselves " .

That is pretty much normal reaction if someone hasn't seen you for

awhile...and you never get used to it. I KNOW when I brush my teeth

in the morning and look in the mirror that I look like hell and have

aged at LEAST 15 years in the last 2 years. My new DR. actually told

me so when I showed him a before picture...he said " holy sh*t, you

really do look like hell!! " .I just wanted him to see how bad I

really felt and what this had done to me! it worked!.he is my biggest

supporter!.I was still a size 4, and had great hair, and a nice

complexion......I was looking good for 52..all my friends thought I

was in my early 40's. Then I got sick. Now I run into people in wally-

world that I haven't seen in six months and they talk to me like... " I

know this person from somewhere...but where, oh damn this is going to

drive me nuts!!! " .....and sometimes I just leave them wondering!!!!

It will get better when you have been on meds awhile and have hit on

the right combination that will work for you. ANd you find ways to

get enough sleep. Maybe you will never be as carefree and worry free

as you were....but it won't show as much as it does in the

beginning..at least that is what people keep telling me!!! And I am

going to prove them right if it kills me!!! I was at the point of

having to buy a wig....and then they took me off the methotrexate

that was making my hair come out in giant clumps, for months!!!!Like

you I would have been bald except I had really, really thick hair! I

wouldn't have minded if it was working...but it was making me so sick

that I didn't care if it was working on the RA or not.

ANd it is normal to be depressed. You have lost a lot. And are having

to learn to live a whole new way, and have a baby to deal with

besides. My heart goes out to all of you who have young families and

are having to deal with this as well as be mommie at the same time. I

thank heaven that I am older and my children are grown. If you are

not on an antidepressant you should be, and you need to ask your DR.

for one. It will make you feel a bit better and it will help with

your pain! If you took a poll I bet almost all of us here are on

antidepressants!!

HAng in there and let the medicines work. You are going to have

better days. Take care of YOURSELF too...pamper yourself a little if

it feels good. I know that your day is a long one with baby care and

all the other million things a mother has to do....but leave a few

minutes every day for yourself. TO do what makes you feel good. Maybe

journaling this whole experience would help you....sometimes if you

put it all down on paper it takes it off your mind a little and you

can put that part of it behind you..and feel just a little bit better

about it and about yourself...like: I had a bad day but this is what

I did to feel better about it...that kind of thing...it might be

worth a try...and you can always come here and whine all you like!!

We ALL know what you are going through and are here to offer

support!!! jenna

Thank you so much Jenna. I'm very blessed to have caring parents. My

dad is a truck driver and my mom is a severe diabetic that can

sypathize with my pain. I told my dad I needed help and he said " I'm

in Fort Wayne but don't worry I'll be in Lansing by noon tomorrow to

picck up my grandbaby so you can have the weekend to rest. " He's

coming of the road early for me! That's saying a lot because you

usually have to be dead or bleeding to death for him to come of the

road. It really made me feel loved. And my mom promised to send me

some chocolate chip cookies (my favorite).

For now I think my weekend will consist of my bed, water animal

crackers and sleep. I'm sure my hubby will force me to eat. The

thought gags me these days but I know I have to.

Thank you for your positive thoughts, Jenna. They mean a lot to me.

Yes, I am on an antidepressant too.
