Guest guest
I just got back from an evening in a very nice gym. I had forgotten how the weight machines can really isolate the muscle groups! With a lot of free weights and general aerobics, you use a lot of other muscles for balance and such, but a weight machinnger th takes care of all that. I also used their indoor track to run. I ran a 1/2 mile in 6 minutes flat -- not shabby for a short legged ol' lady!!! (DH said, " I could walk it in that time! " -- but his legs are 7-8 inches longer than mine!!) Anyway, I'm proud that I could run that on a real track, as opposed to the treadmill. After that, I spent some time in the pool. I did some deep stretches and a lot of kicks underwater. It's amazing how much resistance the water gives that you don't notice until " later. " THe water also helps keep you from snapping your knee on front kicks and such, if you tend to do that. If DH gets a full time job, I think I will renew my membership to the gym there. It's kind of pricey -- I was there tonight on a guest pass that a friend gave me. I had a great time expending those calories!! Indyrose
Guest guest
Yay, Indy! I'm sore in the chest too and it feels great. The machines are fun and DO isolate the muscles in different ways, though I feel it's also important to use dumbells / free weights so that each side works equally and works at stabilizing the weight through motion. What can I say I crave variety I do love the gym - I don't get out enough and the gym is my sanctuary, my church. I don't have cable tv, a land line or a car so I feel my $47 gym membership per month is $ well spent. The swimming pool.... aahhhhh... you and I are alike that way I'm at home in the water! I too enjoy free gym passes. I still have a Skogg kettlebell gym one week pass to use and also a bunch at the Hilton Hotel. Hugs! I just got back from an evening in a very nice gym.
