Guest guest
If your DH ever lived with a cat, especially a Siamese, he would change his mind. I think some people who don't like cats, don't like them because they're never had one or they had a bad experience with them. It's sort of like blaming a whole race because one person was mean to you...not fair. JenSubject: Re: Pictures of my kittenTo: exercisevideos Date: Monday, April 23, 2012, 10:06 PM Awwww... Guest guest
Yes. My first cat was from the street. I found it and took it home sometime after lunch. Then he proceeded to get scared and hid under the kitchen cabinet. Nothing would get it out of there. By 10PM "it" started to smell. My mom was asking me what that smell was and I fessed up that I got a cat. She almost killed me. The cat was hissing, scratching, scared like hell. I can't remember how we got it out but the poop smelled really bad. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to get bitten or scratched. I think I was about 8 or 9. My only cat experience LOL. I'm kind of scared getting scratched ever since. But I would never get a cat declawed. Not to say that I had great experiences with my dogs either. There were more biters than not. The difference is now I know what to do and I'm a tad bit older. IMO an untrained pet, especially an aggressive one is a nuisance and not fun. I learn till I die. (and looking over my shoulder, Lexi is so cute when she is sleeping. not so cute when she goes to poop in the basement :0P - must be feeling better to make the stairs alone. We removed one gate with the 3 stairs.)   If your DH ever lived with a cat, especially a Siamese, he would change his mind.  I think some people who don't like cats, don't like them because they're never had one or they had a bad experience with them. It's sort of like blaming a whole race because one person was mean to you...not fair.               Jen Subject: Re: Pictures of my kitten To: exercisevideos Date: Monday, April 23, 2012, 10:06 PM  Awwww... Guest guest
The cat you found on the street was scared that's why it scratched and bite you. It probably felt cornered in your house, that's why it hid. Finding a half-wild cat isn't the same as getting a pet from the Humane Society, or a breeder. The cat you found may have never been socialized (held a lot by different people.) I think that if you had found a stray dog, it might have done the same thing I've been scratched by cats since I was 2 years old. My Mom said that I didn't care because I loved them so much. I did have one cat that scratched us a lot when he played, he didn't mean any harm....my parents got him declawed. They did it too late and his paws were butchered. For the two kittens I'm getting (one down, one to go) I won't be declawing them, I will be trimming their nails or getting soft paws. Really cats are great pets but if you've had a bad experience it's hard to let go. You can tell when a cat is mad because it puts it's ears flat to it's head and crouches down. Most cats don't scratch unless they are protecting themselves. Kittens scratch when they're playing.Cat 101, Jen. Guest guest
Thank you for not declawing your cats! It's really cruel. You are a patient and loving Cat Person, Jen, and I heart you for it!! Guest guest
My other cats were declawed because either I was still a child/minor and it was my parents decision or because I didn't know better. Now that I know that the Vet chops off the last knuckle of the kitties paws NO WAY will I get them declawed! When you Know better you DO Better, Jen Subject: Re: Pictures of my kitten To: exercisevideos Date: Monday, April 23, 2012, 10:06 PM Awwww... Guest guest
I didn't know any of that when I was a kid. There was no humane society where I come from, there are lots of stray animals on the streets. My mom wouldn't get us a pet so I got one LOL. After that they got us 2 dogs. One for me and one for my sister (twins are always treated the same) and boy were they bad dogs too. We didn't know how to train them, my parents didn't care and eventually we had to give them up. One went to my grandparents and the other to another family. They turned out to be good guard dogs but they were not safe in the highrise where we lived. They both were fear biters. I keep telling my kids if they want a pet there is a lot more to it than bringing one home. They need a lot of care and teaching, it's really like having an extra child. DH is now thinking about goats and chickens. Apparently it is legal to keep chickens here. I didn't know. I saw some mini goats with silky hair in the area. We should look into those. If we get a farm there will be lots of room to run around. Kittens scratch when they're playing.
