Guest guest
I had about 1 week when my weight stayed the same and then the following week it went up. Last week I dont know what I did but I lost all of the weight I had gain over the last 4 weeks. I hate how you have to kill yourself to lose weight & then it seems like 1 wrong move and you gain back everything you worked so hard for, go figureDi To: exercisevideos Sent: Monday, July 16, 2012 10:40 PM Subject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 Thanks Di! Guest guest
I feel the same way Di. It's so HOT here in Michigan, I didn't feel like doing anything. I had two job assignments today (I'm a Sign Language Interpreter) so I had to go out in the heat. It was 102 today (record-setting high temperature!) My first assignment was at 10am and the second one was at 1pm. I thought I would have time to come home and eat lunch but the first job didn't end until 12:20pm so I had to go directly to the second assignment. That one didn't end until around 3pm....so I didn't eat lunch until almost 4pm UGH...can't help it some times. Tomorrow I know I will at least get some exercise in. I have my swim class tomorrow night. It's a busy day but at least I will get to do some exercise. Do you count calories? I still haven't started yet...sigh. Guest guest
I've been packing a cooler with food so that as I go from one meeting to another I can eat something. Like you, I can't eat while I'm conducting a meeting so my cooler is my best friend on busy days, keeping me energized with healthy food and keeping me from overeating from being super hungry when I get home too. I don't always need everything I pack so then it just goes back in the fridge for the next day.To: exercisevideos Sent: Tue, July 17, 2012 11:39:19 PMSubject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 I feel the same way Di. Guest guest
I don't always have time to eat between interpreting assignments but when I do I pack a lunch. Sometimes though, I think I will have time but then an appointment runs longer than expected and I don't. I'm not sure if I had a cooler it would solve my problem. For example, Tuesday I had a 10:30am PT appointment and then at 1pm I had an Ophthalmologist appointment. Normally I would have time to drive home between assignments and eat/relax. Guest guest
I don't have an on the go / unpredictable schedule like you, but I think the cooler is an AWESOME idea!  Like say you are 15 minutes early at the dr. appointment you can have a hard boiled egg (protein to help keep you full), a half sandwich, a yogurt, or a protein shake, etc - which will stay nice and cold in the cooler, plus it sounds like it's been very hot where you are, maybe some unssweetened ice tea and cold water could be good to throw in there too! I love bringing my own meals to work. It saves tons of $ and I take a certain pride in knowing I made it all myself, and I can log my calories better that way, as not all restaurants have stats for their offereings. Anyway, good luck!
Guest guest
I'm suppose to arrive at least 15 minutes early to assignments but it doesn't always work out like that if I'm going from point A to point B because of traffic. And now Henry Ford Health Systems requires all of the interpreters to call and check in with their Deaf/Hard of hearing center...which means sometimes I'm stuck on hold when I'm trying to hurry and find my client. The other thing is that I don't eat fast at all. It would take me probably over a half hour to eat a sandwich. I'm an extremely slow eater, which I guess is a good thing. I wouldn't be able to bring the cooler in with me on medical assignments and I don't want to eat in my car when it's 90+ degrees or even in the 80's. I think I'm better off bringing a slim fast drink or Special K fruit crisps to snack on. Interpreting is a different profession and it's really hard for other people to understand my job and what I really do. My car is really like my office. I only bring food to college interpreting assignments when I know I will get a break. I bring ice water when I interpret college classes too. It would be easier for to bring a cooler to her job because she would have a place where she can eat. I don't have anything like that unless I'm working at a college. If I have back to back medical interpreting jobs I can't bring a cooler into any of those places and I may not even have enough time to do eat anyway. Guest guest
Hi , I always pack my lunch for work too - I rarely go out for lunch - in part b/c I'm only in the office 3X per week and I also arrive late due to DD's schedule and I don't want to take the time to go out to eat. A handful of times a year I'll go out w/ my team, but that is more of a "mandatory" thing! I feel better eating my own food, too. Restaurant food always makes me sleepy and thirsty!Donna To: exercisevideos Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2012 12:46 AMSubject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 I don't have an on the go / unpredictable schedule like you, but I think the cooler is an AWESOME idea! Guest guest
ooo yes, cheese sticks are great too!  Good one, !  If there's a will, there's a way.  Love the cooler idea, !  I'm eating in my car as I drive. Many days I'm in 4 or 5 different locations and I'm often not home for as much as 6-8 hours at a time. Sometimes I'm not sure how long I'll be gone either so I pack one just in case. I find things like hard boiled eggs and cheese sticks are easy to eat as I go and then I also have carrot sticks, grapes and other easily handled foods. I throw a bunch of ice in a cooler with the food and I'm good to go all day. Guest guest
You've made some incorrect assumptions about my job, Jen. I don't bring my cooler in anywhere and I do not have anywhere I can eat most of the time. Most of my meetings are at various businesses and not WW centers. I go in, conduct the meeting and leave (then go to the next one). I am almost never without members around me so I can't eat when I'm on site (and I wouldn't sit down and eat at the client's site either unless they invited me to do so). When my meetings are in the WW centers I rarely get a break long enough to grab a bite (I do a meeting, then orientation, then run another meeting, then another orientation, sometimes 3 like that then it is time to go). When I work as a receptionist then I do have some down time (no members around) when I can munch quickly as I do paperwork but 99% of the time I'm a leader so eating on the job is not an option. My office is also my car. I logged about 1,000 miles just for work last month. I eat in my car when it is 90+ and the other day when it was 103. I'd rather do that than not have the energy I need (my members frequently comment on how energetic I am and how much I seem to love my work because of the passion I show) and I don't want to be so hungry that I eat indiscriminately once I get home (which has happened many times in the past). Before I worked for WW I owned a home party business (I was a Creative Memories consultant) and traveled a lot for that too. I'd let myself go too long without eating something decent and I'd get shaky and then when I got home I'd eat everything in sight just to make myself feel better. I eventually learned that was counterproductive to my weight loss and health goals and found ways to make sure I was well nourished no matter what challenges I faced. This is what I've learned works for me and what I hear from a great many members who do a lot of driving works for them too. Your mileage may, of course, vary. To: exercisevideos Sent: Thu, July 19, 2012 12:59:06 AMSubject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 I'm suppose to arrive at least 15 minutes early to assignments but it doesn't always work out like that if I'm going from point A to point B because of traffic. Guest guest
That's exactly how I look at it, . I drive past tons of fast food restaurants and sometimes have time to stop in but I do it to use the bathroom instead of buy any food! :-) I'm the only one that can take care of me and I'm the only me I've got so like you say, where there's a will there's a way and this is what is important to me so I do it. I've had to pack my cooler for 4 out of 6 days this week and I'd rather not take the time to do it, but it makes my day easier and my body healthier so it I do it.To: exercisevideos Sent: Thu, July 19, 2012 2:14:12 PMSubject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 ooo yes, cheese sticks are great too! Guest guest
hi jen - where i work, we are not allowed to bring in our own food so i usually eat in my car, but if it is too hot in there then i just eat outside. no matter where i go, whether it is to work or not, i bring my food in a cooler along with a folding lawnchair and set up wherever i want. i also keep non-perishable food in my car (fibre one bars and water) for use at any time. i can get out to my car, eat lunch and get back to work in 15 minutes. skip sandwiches if they take too long for you to eat and choose quicker foods - like the hard boiled egg suggestion, they work great for a fast snack. :*carolyn. Guest guest
Hey Jen, I do not count calories, I usually estimate and just concentrate on eating smaller portions. I do a lot of home visits for work and many time I have to eat lunch in my car. I always pack a lunch, so I can regulate how much I eat. I pack it the night before, so I dont have to worry with it in the morning. When I go into the office it is difficult because someone is always bringing in yummy treats. Then I go look at the treat & pretend like Im eating it, that helps, or else I will go look at it and say that would stick to my hips, butt & belly it is not worth it.Di To: exercisevideos Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2012 12:33 AM Subject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 I don't always have time to eat between interpreting assignments but when I do I pack a lunch. The Ophthalmologist appointment ran longer too and I didn't get home until after 3:30pm I need to put smaller snacks in my purse, I guess.Oh well, it's good money and I enjoy it! Guest guest
Hi Carolyn,I have been eating the hard boiled eggs for dinner, just the egg whites they are surprisingly filling, I too love the fiber one bars!Di To: exercisevideos Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2012 3:29 PM Subject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 hi jen - where i work, we are not allowed to bring in our own food so i usually eat in my car, but if it is too hot in there then i just eat outside. no matter where i go, whether it is to work or not, i bring my food in a cooler along with a folding lawnchair and set up wherever i want. i also keep non-perishable food in my car (fibre one bars and water) for use at any time. i can get out to my car, eat lunch and get back to work in 15 minutes. skip sandwiches if they take too long for you to eat and choose quicker foods - like the hard boiled egg suggestion, they work great for a fast snack. :*carolyn. Guest guest
I hate hard-boiled eggs so that's out for me. I would rather just bring something with me that doesn't require a cooler unless I will be some place I can sit down and eat. I don't like eating and driving....distracted driving isn't safe so I try to avoid it. Guest guest
Sorry for my incorrect assumption. When I have more than one assignment a day I don't have enough time between jobs to stop and eat. So I usually take nuts or an energy drink and try to eat that before running into whatever facility I'm at. You may like eating in a hot car but not me. I would rather eat at home or outside. That's just me, Jenp.s. I don't always eat everything in the ref when I get home either.pps I bought a bunch of healthy foods to eat so I'm prepared now.Subject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12To: exercisevideos Date: Thursday, July 19, 2012, 12:46 AM I don't have an on the go / unpredictable schedule like you, but I think the cooler is an AWESOME idea! Guest guest
I think that you guys give great suggestions but you really don't understand my job and how long/short I work, travel time, free time etc... My problem is that when I go to an assignment (unless it's a college class) I don't know exactly how long it will take. I got in trouble last week because it went twice as long as what the agency told me. I did eat something though because the Head RN gave me some food. If I had brought a cooler it wouldn't have done any good because it would have been in my car. I can't bring food into a procedure room at a hospital. Some jobs are short and some are long. Most of the time I can guess how long they will be but once in a while I can't. A good example of my job is having back to back Dr. appointments in cities opposite from one another. You would just get done with one appointment when it was time to run to another one. I don't like being late because sometimes they take patients in early and because I like to talk to the patient to see their signing style before I begin. Again you give good suggestions (I think you all told me these before) but I'm not interested in bringing a cooler with me when I probably won't have time to eat anything like a sandwich or yogurt. I've been bringing nuts with me, which are a good source of protein/energy. Guest guest
My car, thankfully, has air conditioning so it is not hot and the cooler keeps my food cool too so the heat was not a problem. The real problem was what to do with the banana I brought one day last week. I put it in the cooler and it got too cold, not good. Then I put it on the seat to get it warmed up a bit but forgot about it and it got too hot. Hot banana is even worse than cold banana (tried that another day, yuck) but bananas are very filling for me so they're good for long days. I finally found a way to put it on top of everything in the cooler so it is away from the ice. Cool banana is very good! Guest guest
Have you tried talking with other interpreters about how they handle eating healthy as they're going from job to job? That is, if you're interested in other ideas, they would be the ideal people to talk to, I'd think. If what you're doing is working for you though, I guess there's no need.Me and my cooler are off for another 6 hour + day!To: exercisevideos Sent: Thu, July 19, 2012 11:27:56 PMSubject: Re: Jen's Weigh-ins from 05/13/12 through 07/08/12 I think that you guys give great suggestions but you really don't understand my job and how long/short I work, travel time, free time etc... Guest guest
I didn't know that the job assignment was going to get all messed up or I could have brought my lunch bag and then went to the car and brought it in. There is no way for me or the agency to know exactly how long jobs will last. The reason why the Head RN gave me food was because she took me down to the er to interpret for a relative of my Deaf patient (I was only there to interpret for ONE patient not two) but when we got there he was UN-responsive. That's when I told her that I only had crackers and water since 6:30am (it was about 2pm at that time) so she went into the nurse's ref and gave me a turkey sandwich. I could have gone to the cafeteria but I don't want to spend my money (I'm trying to SAVE MONEY) plus the food there doesn't appeal to me. Anyway, in my other post I DID say that I could take a slim fast drink or a protein drink. When I said I eat nuts, I meant a handful of nuts. I know nuts are high in fat and calories but they are good for you too. Jen > I did eat something though > because the Head RN gave me some food.
