Guest guest
I am curious about your (the entire group) experiences with Wellbutrin (Bupropion Hcl). Are there any of you who have ONLY taken Wellbutrin (no other antidepressant class medication) or were taking it most recently - that is, just prior to PSSD? Have any of you taken Wellbutrin in treatment for PSSD? If so, what have been your experiences? Has it helped? If so, for how long? Does it still? Did you later discontinue it? If so, why? (Before someone attacks me for asking a " dumb " or " irrelevant " question, I DO realize bupropion is not strictly speaking an SSRI and as such has a somewhat different mechanism of action - mainly acting on dopamine and norepinephrine [though it has been shown that its metabolites do appear to act on serotonin circuitry as well]. I also realize that this fact would seem to exclude it from the domain: " Post SSRI Sexual Disfunction " . Nevertheless, I am very curious about others' experiences with this drug. Before discontinuing all medications over a year ago, I was most recently taking Wellbutrin XL (300mg) to ameliorate the sexual side-effects of Effexor XR (75mg) and citalopram (20mg) in turn. Initially, immediately, and with overwhelming success, it restored: orgasm quality; erectile function, rigidity, and spontaneity; and a healthy libido to levels I recall experiencing as a teenager prior to any antidepressant therapy. Then - suddenly and to my great disappointment - that effect disappeared after a several months of daily use. As it is likely my body's dopamine circuitry re-regulated itself (down-regulating receptors and/or DA/NE production) to accommodate the increase in DA/NE availability from re-uptake inhibition, I consider Wellbutrin (an NDRI not SSRI) a possible culprit in my current condition or at least a contributing factor.)
