Guest guest
Hello everyone. It's been awhile since I've written, but I've been reading and learning from the best group of people there is! I've just started taking Embrel (first shot today) and have been reading about your experiences with it. I'm looking forward to feeling better. I have 2 questions: 1. My sed rate was at 30 when it was tested this week, which for a person my age (59) is right at the normal range, or so I thought. It's been as high as 70 in the past. I was happy with 30. Doc says I still have too much inflamation that he can see, which is why he started me on the new meds. I'm pretty overweight, so I always wonder how he can tell I've got inflamation, rather than just fat (LOL). So, is 30 actually considered too high for a person my age? 2. Does anyone else have nerve pain in their knee as a result of RA? This started a couple of weeks ago. It's to the side and the back of the knee, not in the front. I don't think I've injured it or torn any cartilege, so don't know what could be behind it, unless maybe swelling? Sorry for the long post. I look forward to reading your thoughts. Guest guest
Betsy, It depends on your lab, but a value of 30 mm for your ESR might be OK for your age. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003638.htm You might have a normal ESR but still have significant inflammation. If you aren't sure about how your physician is judging your level of inflammation, just ask him. He'll show or tell you what he's looking for. I wish you the best with Enbrel! Hope to see a report from you soon about how good you're feeling. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go!
