LOLOL... that was a joke, what a very funny cute guy, since i was looking to pay around $50 for a phone he proceeded to give me very smart 5 " HTC phone for free (retail $500) as an upgrade on my service plan (back to a 3 year contract instead of 1.5 years) -- even though the person that i called didnt offer it, he knew that my provider always has a phone that they will allow anyone to upgrade to at any time (like a sale on anything else, they want to get rid of these phones for various reasons relating to inventory, newer models coming out, etc...). and wow, what an amazing phone. i handed it over to my dh whose company pays the cell phone bill, and he gave me the smart phone he had gotten free with his plan, which is also nothing to sneeze at. we are both quite happy with the upgrades and the amount of our monthly bill doesnt change (just the term for the one phone). so i really think you should go to a phone store and have the person there to look up your service agreement and figure out a way to get you and your dh some new phones! they will do anything for your business, including upgrading your contract or giving you a whole new one. the contract includes free phones and with the phones these days, you will be shocked at the difference over your old ones. i hope this works the same way there in the usa, but this is how we do it here in canada. :*carolyn. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, I knew someone here would know something about this stuff. I'm pretty certain our plan doesn't allow for upgrades, it is seriously old. Even older than my flip phone (which still doesn't work, it dried out but something must have shorted or something since it no longer can find a signal). We'll find out for sure though. My DH tried to convince me of everything you said (it works the same here) this morning, he thinks it won't cost us too much more per month and that we can probably get a good phone for at least me. We're more than willing to sign up for a multi-year commitment since there's only one provider that seems to work really well where we are too. DH thought he was being helpful though when he told me I could probably end up getting a smart phone (which I really want), but we'd have to start with a plan with very limited data and time because we couldn't afford much right now (and that we could upgrade when we're in a better place). That makes sense but handing me something like that and then telling me not to use it hardly at all is like giving a kid a new toy and telling them they can hold it but they can't play with it! I'll make it work though, if this turns out to even be the case. I'm hoping he'll have some time to go shopping with me tomorrow. I'm so overwhelmed by this stuff that I'm not sure I want to go alone. I doubt he'll be free until the weekend though. We'll see. Thanks for your help, Carolyn!!
