Guest guest
The Guitar Diet is one I find that always works!!! I eat out of desire for sensation / stimulation, and the guitar or even video games are awesome distractions that keep your hands busy. I haven't played a video game in years, but I'm thinking I might need to! I don't eat, pee, get up or anything for hours at a time when I play; I get super addicted / focused in the plot (I play role playing games, mostly horror) Thank you for reminding me of this! Love,Ms. Nerdy Hi all, Wednesday was a routine walk/BART commute, 5 miles, but I did do some run/walk segments. This morning I was getting ready to do a STS disk 8, but now I see that there's a huge problem with BART due to a fire, so I'm going to have to leave early. I'll do a total body strength tomorrow. I have to get this down " on paper " first: So, I've been falling into my old, unhealthy evening routine. Due to my long commute, I don't get home until 7:30 or so. The Blue Sofa is the devil. It's too easy to just hit the sofa and watch TV, and zone out on Facebook. DH has snacks out on the coffee table, and I lose track of how much I eat. I'm racking up some extra calories on a regular basis, and I lose track of how much. I deceive myself into thinking that I can indulge because I worked out. Wrong. It occurred to me that if I played guitar in the evening instead of plopping down on that Blue Sofa, I'd be in another room away from that coffee table. I wouldn't be tempted to snack. So, I'm calling this the Guitar Diet. I've been trying to prune my activities by snipping away at damaging and distracting routines and focusing on the things that matter to me: direct communication with my friends and family, more time to participate here, time for creative outlets, and other more productive and health-promoting activites. BTW, if you're annoyed with Facebook, I strongly encourage killing it. What a relief. I like phones and email better.

Guest guest
You head out to the gym after work, but do you run into trouble in the evenings? I can be so good during the day, and then totally go off the rails in the evening sometimes. It only has to happen a couple of times a week to mess me up.Do you own a guitar right now? I don't have video games or computer games, but I know I can get super addicted to them. My son loves them. I don't know that it would satisfy my need for a creative outlet though. I'm not much of a musician, but it sure is fun to play an instrument. The Guitar Diet is one I find that always works!!! Guest guest
Yes, I do have trouble in the evenings and am considering going back to getting up at 4:30 and working out before work and then again after work. This way I go to bed early and stay out of trouble!Hugs! You head out to the gym after work, but do you run into trouble in the evenings? Guest guest
The things that help me to stay out of trouble in the evenings: - I get home late from work (b/c I go in late due to doing the morning school drop off, DH goes in early and does the pick-up); - I don't watch TV; - I go to bed early b/c I get up early to workout (I usually go to bed when my DD does - so around 9 on school nights) I used to have a lot more trouble w/ evening snacking but not so much anymore. During the school year when I get home from work I also usually have to check/supervise homework. And, I really, really don't watch TV!! Guest guest
, I think your guitar diet sounds fabulous! I have similar issues with plopping down on the couch out of exhaustion in the evening. And I agree, Facebook is such a time-suck. Plus I find that it makes me very NOSEY...esp when some people insist on posting all of their business on there. I really need a break from FB. Guest guest
You know - this is inspiring, there are many things I want to do and don't make time for them: - I would like to be a better knitter and make homemade things like scarves, hats, mittens, blankets, etc. - I think learning an instrument would be super fun - is there a self-taught guitar program I could buy?? - I would like to journal and draw - actually, I was thinking of a way to do this - my DD loves to draw and loves art (and she is good at it, if I do say so myself!) so I was thinking she and I can start a nature journal together. I also would like to read more "learning" books - rather than just fiction for entertainment. I need more hours in the day!! Guest guest
Donna, I so know what you mean! There are so many things I really want to do: sew/make quilts, organize my pictures, take more pictures, read, write...but yet I spend so much time being idle vegging out on FB, etc. And I don't even own an actual computer! Guest guest
Hi Jeannette, Yes, the internet tends to suck me in - I enjoy being on this list and checking out VideoFitness - but I tend to stay on too long. Guest guest
Thanks Jeannette. It has been great being off of FB. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Yes, I used to have a great instructional computer program for the guitar. There are also wonderful music books that come with instructions and CDs so that you can hear how it's supposed to sound or play along. What kind of music do you enjoy?I agree. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn,It's supposed to be easier than guitar: four strings instead of 6. The uke wont arrive until next Tues or Wednesday. I promise updates. In the meantime, I'm trying some different stuff on the guitar. It really did help this week. I hope I can keep some momentum going because it keeps me away from that blue-sofa-of-death most days. > Yes, I used to have a great instructional computer program for > the guitar.
