Guest guest
On my last trip to the dentist, I was informed by him that I now have RA in my jaw and to inform my Rhummy. I have no idea what that will involve in the future, except I really hope that I won't need any dental work that will need my mouth opened wide for any period of time. The jaw area has hurt for a long time, but I would always forget about it when it quite hurting. Not as bad as other body parts. Guest guest
Hi Dawn, My jaw often gives me trouble to the point that I can't open all the way, hurts to eat & talk, etc. It comes and goes. Just recently, I started taking over the counter sinus medicine and that seems to help. In my case, I believe it is sinus pressure causing the pain. Just my 2 cents, hope it helps. Guest guest
OTC sinus meds seem to help me too, and I have been doing some accupressure points for sinus which also help. See my Rhummy next month, so I'll try to remember to mention it. Problem is, if it isn't flaring, I forget and concentrate on what is screaming at the moment. Shoulders are acting up again now. Figure the RA is in everything but the elbows. Only joints I have left. Guest guest
Oh no, I never even considered that the trouble I've been having with my jaw could be RA. My dentist thought it might be a bad tooth, and my chiropractor told me that it was out of alignment. Mine too, is just on the right side. I'll have to ask my rheumy when I see in the new year. Heaven forbid if anything stops me from talking ! Patsy El Mirage, AZ DX 2005 Stage 1 PBC AIH/SLE/RA/COPD Just a woman of letters.... Guest guest
The I have two problems with my jaw. It pops out when I bite an apple and hurts like heck to leave my mouth open at a dentist. To eat apples, I cut it up first, then eat it. My dentist lets me close my mouth every few minutes during crown work. Debbie L fibro, OA, DDD > >

Guest guest
My rheumatologist told me to warn the dentist & hygenist that I had RA, and shouldn't keep my mouth open wide for long periods of time. She said I should rest my jaw every 10 minutes or so just to prevent problems. I've had TMJ problems in the past, but whether they were early signs of RA or not, who knows? It was quite a while before I was dx'd with RA. A mouth guard that I wore at night helped a LOT. > > The I have two problems with my jaw. Guest guest
Never had TMJ or anything close to it here.
