If I stay on the lysine I won't get cold sores but you know with all the drugs that I'm taking as soon as I can eliminate a 'pill', I do it. If a cold sore starts again, I go to 1000 mg of lysine for a week, and then drop down to 500 mg for about a month. Then they stop. Just another alternative to meds.
