Guest guest
that sounds DARK, Cola Pop. I know my situation will pass, I know this in my mind, yet... I still feel really weepy. I don't think it gets better with menopause from what I hear, you still have hormonal moodiness with that too, it's just not as... messy, and you get the night sweats instead (which I think are worse) I wish all men could go thorugh this a few times to understand... i remember my dh thinking that i was crazy, and i know that i cried alot. i couldnt watch certain tv shows because i would weep. i would sit for long periods of the day and night just nursing and holding the babies... and crying. i had to try not to be like that though because if i were crying, the babies would cry. Guest guest
Wow, that would have been a really rough time to go through, menopause and postpartum! A double whammy of messed up hormones! And you were really young, too! I think I've been going through peri-menopause for the past few years (starting around age 42). Insomnia was one of the first signs, and it's still very rare for me to sleep all night if I don't take 1/2 a tablet of doxylamine. I really hate having to take it every night, but it's either that or I end up crying from not being able to go back to sleep after hours have gone by. It's SO frustrating! I used to be able to easily sleep all night long (and totally took that for granted!) And it's so dumb that I cry about not being able to sleep, but at night it feels like I will just NOT be able to function or cope at all the next day. But then it usually turns out that the day is never as bad as I imagined. Stupid hormones. Lol. I am so ready to be done with all! Guest guest
I had a hysterectomy in 2007. I don't get true "hot flashes" but I do feel really warm most of the time. I know what a hot flash is because I tried taking niacin to lower my cholesterol and that gave me horrible hot flashes. When my Mom got them she would sweat like crazy and pull her clothes off LOL...I'm not that bad but I do have facial hairs now that I have to pluck. I guess the ovaries my Dr. left ran out of eggs! Guest guest
I accidentally hit the send button. I meant to say that I sympathize. I had a horrible case of postpartum depression. I've never felt so sad, not even when I've grieved. It was so completely physiological as opposed to grief, which was terrible, but situational. The postpartum thing was so horrible that I feel for anyone going through any kind of depression. I'll never forget it. As for menopause, I think it can vary according to the individual. The mood thing isn't too bad. I sometimes feel down, but that's when I blow off steam by doing a long work out and continuing until I'm so exhausted that the mood is obliterated. For me, the hot flashes weren't too bad. They struck me as surprising and amusing. Night sweats started about 10 years before my period stopped. I am sleeping so much better now that the switch has finally switched. I haven't had a hot flash in a while. So, here's what I'm dealing with now: my weight wants to climb. This is a new development, and it's a bit shocking. My old tricks aren't working, so its time to change my routine again. I'm tweaking my goals. I'm regrouping right now. Hugs to all on this thread. I sympathise > I'm almost 54 and just barely starting -- still have regular > visits, but also have heat and other signs of menopause -- the > worst of both worlds... :-( ugh! i cant imagine it because my story goes.... when i was 38 i gave birth to my 2nd baby (#1 was 22 months old). looking back i realized that i was post-partum and pre-menopausal at the same time. i remember my dh thinking that i was crazy, and i know that i cried alot. i couldnt watch certain tv shows because i would weep. i would sit for long periods of the day and night just nursing and holding the babies... and crying. i had to try not to be like that though because if i were crying, the babies would cry. i also could not concentrate well and didnt sleep much. hot flashes, cold flashes. it was over-whelming, but what helped see me through was eating well and getting fresh air and trying to get some exercise. i had chalked it up to being post-partum but when i never got my period back at all, even 3 years later at age 41, the dr checked my hormone levels and declared that i was in menopause. i havent had a period since i got pregnant at age 37 (and now im 48). :*carolyn. ------------------------------------
