I Want Those Arms again

Today was planned to be core but I had a detour. I went to the podiatrist and told him my heels are still very sore and the area where I had the pinched nerve was starting to get active again, not bad but announcing it was still there. He thinks the inflammation in the heels was affecting the nerve so he gave me a cortisone shot in my right heel today. That HURT but perhaps worse is that my entire right foot is numb from it so walking is no fun. When I got home I told DH I didn't think I'd work out today and he suggested I do upper body sitting in a chair. Since I have I Want Those Arms and program 2 is seated I suddenly had no excuses. I did that instead of core because I was concerned I might jar my foot too much moving around for positions on the floor with core. It might have been okay but this was good too. I did my push-ups as I waited for the DVD then did the routine. I modified the (standing) warm-up a bit and when we did tricep dips I extended my right leg so it worked pretty well. I went up in weights for most of it (to 6s) and those were good. I didn't move to 12 (from 10) for concentration curls but might next time. Hopefully my foot will "wake up" (it feels like it is asleep) by tomorrow and I can comfortably do core then.

Oh gosh , I have heard those cortisone shots really hurt! I have plantar fascitis but was always scared to get the shots. The only thing that has really helped me is to wear my workout shoes most of the time...even if I am just hanging out at home.

It was not fun but it wasn't the worst I've had in this journey either. The numbness is finally pretty much gone thankfully, that was really awful but I was getting used to it (especially after losing my car in a parking structure and walking all over it). The injection site is a little sensitive but the heel pain itself seems to have diminshed. I'll see how the toe area is tonight and how the rest feels tomorrow. I'm crazy busy tomorrow but want to get at least a short workout in. Tomorrow is the last day of school, just a half day and I need to grocery shop, bake and frost a cake (for DS's friends bday party/sleepover on Saturday) and both kids are having friends over after school, with DS's friend staying with us for the weekend. My plan for now is 20 minutes or so with Mari for pilates but we'll see where I'm at tomorrow. Maybe DH will help me give up whatever excuses I come up with then too!

Got some encouraging news tonight (especially encouraging after we were both pretty down most of the day). DH got an email from a recruiter at a company to which he applied. He knows several people who work there from previous jobs (people who like him and who he likes too), including one of the managers, and the recruiter said she'd talked with two of those people and the manager wasn't sure where Dave's skills fit but asked that she have him look at the job listing and find some he was interested in. I think he got reconnected with a some of his former co-workers through another one and through Linkedin so networking does work. She also complimented him on his excellent skills (or something like that). He looked tonight, then got tired so he'll revisit in the morning and send a note back, at least two sounded like decent to good fits. I'm afraid to hold my breath or hope too much but this is definitely the closest he's gotten so far so...

Oh ! I'm so sorry you have to get another shot. That has to be so freakin' painful. Good for you for doing the workout. Nice suggestion from you DH.

Hi Jeanette,

Yep, they do. I've had so many since December or January though... I'm not immune to them hurting, just used to it in some ways. This one wasn't the worst I've had though (that honor goes to the one I got in the insole... oh wow did that hurt). They have helped a lot though. I wear my workout shoes with my custom orthotics whenever I'm awake, doctor's orders (at least that I wear shoes with the orthotics, these are the only ones I have that they fit into). I hated it at first but now I'm used to it.

Hi ,

I hope it works out for your DH!! Also, glad the foot is settling down. I'm sure Dave will find a reason for you to do your Mari Winsor workout. Funny, all this Pilates talk is making me thinking in that direction again - I haven't really done Pilates for a few months now.....
