Guest guest
Hi... In regards to knee pain....I may know as much about this subject...as even my orthopedic doc listens to me...he says I may know as much as he does about knees. He may be right...since I have had bad knees since 1977. Plus...I have had 9...yes 9...operations on my left knee alone. I have torn and ruptured everything that can be torn or ruptured in a knee. I also have fractured my knee cap, and lost a significant amount of muscle from some of the supporting muscles in the leg. I have also read most every article that comes out on the subject of knees, and knee pain relief...and have probably tried every known injection around. Luckily...as I see it...I had severe nerve damage done to my left leg in 1978, and feel next to nothing down the outside half of my left leg. So I don't feel anything when I am given a steroid injection, or even when they have to drain the fluid from my knee. For the nurses in here...you know what size of needle is used to drain a knee...and I don't even feel it when it is inserted. I do feel pain though...usually along the inside of the leg...and it is usually enough to stop me from doing much at all. When I am offered a steroid injection...I do not turn it down!! The relief is almost intoxicating...I feel so good after one. So...if your doctor offers a steroid injection..please take it! They do numb the area of the injection for you, and if you look away...you won't feel much at all. I personally cannot have an MRI as I have a steel screw in my left patella tendon keeping it in place....I told you I have ruptured everything!!! It was ruptured from the tibia during a football game in which I also tore the ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL, tore my Quad, & broke my femur and tibia...all at the same time...on the same play. I was rolled up from behind by a linebacker, who rolled up against the back of my leg, and then I was bend sideways over my left leg...towards the ground...when I was hit by 3 other players from the right side of my body. My left leg ended up near my left ear in the pile...from what I was told, as I passed out. It is very hard to talk about...since I spent the next 9 months in and out of the hospital, and had 6 operations to put my leg back together. Oh...and please remember..in 1978...they still use plaster casts!!! I never took anything more than Extra Strength Tylenol after the first few days of an operation, as I didn't want to get hooked on the codeine. I still do not take much more than Aleve most days now...and when I do..it's only 1/2 a pain killer at a time. So what am I saying....if you have a chance to get relief...take it. I have lived with this now for nearly 30 years, and its never been easy. I know what it's like to be in pain 24-7-365. I've done it now for nearly 30 years...and was diagnosed for RA back in 1999. I wish the RA was in my left side...but no such luck..it's in my right hip.. I would trade anything not to have the RA in my right hip...the RA pain is so far beyond any pain I have ever experienced for it tenacity and for the fact that it can stop me from doing most anything. On bad RA days...walking is shear torture...and that's what I call it. I tell my wife...I've had enough torture for one day...and I go lay down. My wife can even tell when I am having a flare up...she'll be next to me in bed and she'll get up and put our 6 foot long pillow in between us...she says I am so hot she can't stand it. Even the dogs won't lay up against me then!!! But...I get up each day...and during the school year...I go teach my kids...and I don't let on that anything is wrong. I do what I have to do. Pain or no Pain. Sometimes when I get out in my van after work...I want to just cry because I am in so much pain. But...I figure I have survived another day, and I'll get up tomorrow and do it all over again. But...that's just me. For what it's worth.
