The presence of rheumatoid factor (RF), especially at low levels, is not specific to rheumatoid arthritis. A newer test, one that detects anti-CCP antibodies, is more specific to RA. You might want to ask about that. Rheumatoid arthritis is largely a clinical diagnosis; the labs can help make the diagnosis, but the diagnosis is not dependent on any one lab. It's good that you will be seeing a rheumatologist soon. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go!
