Guest guest
Well, i am a female with genital numbness, so i guess not. The biologic problem is much more complicated then that. > > Subject: Could priapism or long lasting erections be the reason behind genital numbness? > To: SSRIsex > Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2008, 4:14 PM > It's just a thought. Guest guest
No, neither priapism nor long lasting erections are the cause of genital numbness. Priapism is only experienced by a tiny amount of people who take anti-depressants, it is not common at all. Genital numbness is directly due to the neurochemical effects of the antidepressants. SSRIs directly desensitize the serotonin receptors associated with erections ejaculatory control (the receptor 5-HT1a). The medicine directly causes a decrease in how sensitive the penis is - a phenomenon known as " raising the penile sensory threshold " . While it is just speculation, it seems logical that people with persisisten SSRI sexual side effects are experiencing serotonin receptors that are permanently or long-lastingly desensitized by the memedicine. > So I was thinking.
